Ok, so I asked you to give me all the questions you had for #Proton. I collected all of that, and asked all I could I fit in an 1h30 hour long interview with Andy Yen, the CEO of Proton.

He talked features, business model, #Linux support, #privacy, security, and everything in between, and here is the full interview:

@protonmail, @protonvpn

@thelinuxEXP @protonmail @protonvpn I'm just sitting here confused since when valves Proton layer has a CEO and how that would even work
@razze You look like you lost an electron! ;)
@jimmac @razze 😅 It's the other Proton, the privacy-first ecosystem provider: https://proton.me/

Proton
@razze @thelinuxEXP @protonmail @protonvpn There is a company called Proton which is entirely seperate from Valve, they provide services like ProtonMail and ProtonVPN. Basically a more privacy respecting version of Google One. It can be a bit confusing
@thelinuxEXP @protonmail @protonvpn watched it start to finish and it was very interesting. I switched to a paid plan during Black Friday sale. Still adjusting as I slowly move away from some google and Microsoft services. Kinda wish I could buy custom domains (or transfer) directly from proton.
@lewgrant @thelinuxEXP @protonmail @protonvpn how much was the black Friday sale? I just missed it I think 😔onboarded just after. Very happy so far, will be watching the video with interest

@thelinuxEXP @protonmail @protonvpn

Shame I missed this because I'd like to have asked WTF protonvpn v4 so comprehensively broke prontonvpn-cli

Tell me it's agile. I'd believe that.

Release early, release often, release broken.

@thelinuxEXP @protonmail @protonvpn I don't have a question for them, but I'd like to thank em for making a VPN that I can trust, even though I don't pay for the service yet and merely using the free tier (been user for 3 years now), it has the servers that matter to me for my use case (USA and Japan), so again I'd like to send my appreciation to proton for giving someone like me a VPN service that is not annoying like the other VPN services, and getting the tasks that requires using a VPN done as smoothly and easily without ads and annoying popups.
@vegetotownley @thelinuxEXP Very happy to hear this! If you have any questions for us, don't hesitate to reach out to us here.
@thelinuxEXP @protonvpn Thank you for sharing here, Nick!
@thelinuxEXP @protonmail @protonvpn Very good content, thanks! I've had a protonmail account for some time, but it's mostly dormant because replacing my primary email, setting up forwarding, updating registrations feels super inconvenient. But this chat pushed me very close to the tipping point.

How to migrate to Proton using Easy Switch | Proton

This guide explains how you can import your emails, folders, and contacts into Proton Mail using Easy Switch.

Proton

@protonmail Thanks! I checked it after the video, it looks very straightforward. It helped push me a little bit towards switching.

One thing that could help a bit is if it was possible to use my old account(s) as well through Proton Mail (the terrible yahoo mail has this feature). This way I could switch more gradually. But I guess this is out of the question.

@volfpeter Thanks for the feedback. Once you've set up up email forwarding, you can also configure filters in Proton mail to automatically tag your gmail emails to monitor it over a longer transition period, such as 6 months to a year (or longer).
@thelinuxEXP @protonmail @protonvpn Awesome interview. Very rarely do I find interviews that are actually focused on what I need to know, and this was one of them. I don't think I've seen you interview anyone before, you did a seriously great job. After the full interview I decided to take the jump and try Proton again. It's much better than a year ago, still lacking on some things, but otherwise, very solid.
@linuxjj @protonmail @protonvpn It’s probably because I based it all on questions from the community!
@linuxjj @thelinuxEXP Happy to hear this! Feel free to share what you find missing in our ecosystem.
