There is a lot of alarmist stuff going around about .io ccTLD being "retired", fedi instances that use it having to move, etc. 👀

Keep calm. Here's the one thing you need to know about this right now:

👉 Even if .io ever gets "retired", it will take *years* for this to affect already delegated .io domains in any way at all.

I cannot stress this enough, we are talking years if not decades.

Soviet Union dissolved 33 years ago, but .su domains still resolve.

Deep breaths.
Carry on.

@mosborne01 NOICE! I just had a week in the South, gorging on the real deal. Now to go home and try and recreate it!
@artnacrea Thank you, sir!
So bloody weird to be the only masked person in this airport. Even the queues for the various Asian airlines were bare-faced, and I swear masks used to be really common in a bunch of those culture. Have we gone *backwards*?

@mjgardner @perigrin Yup, equivalent to the way you might use social media to get an audience but you always make them sign up to an email list so they can be YOUR audience and not Facebook's.

Pro creators know this stuff (mostly) because of a hundred years of being exploited by labels. It's new to general public. We punters now create content, whether FB posts or IG reels or Twitch streams. But didn't have a multigenerational history of having our work ripped off.

If you depend on a company to host, keep, or own something for you, know that there are only three ways this goes:
* company fails and "your" thing is gone,
* company succeeds and "your" thing becomes your leash as they milk then flense you in fees or privacy or both, or
* best case: "thing"s aren't valuable, the company stumbles along in mediocrity, and "your" thing stays "safe" in incompetent hands.

If you find yourself hoping your vendor isn't successful, that's a red flag.

It's syllabus time! Did you know that my coauthors and I have put out a (free) supplement for anyone who wants to add one day on design patents to their IP class:

We also have a full (also free) Patents book, available at: https://patentlawcasebook.com
