There is a lot of alarmist stuff going around about .io ccTLD being "retired", fedi instances that use it having to move, etc. 👀

Keep calm. Here's the one thing you need to know about this right now:

👉 Even if .io ever gets "retired", it will take *years* for this to affect already delegated .io domains in any way at all.

I cannot stress this enough, we are talking years if not decades.

Soviet Union dissolved 33 years ago, but .su domains still resolve.

Deep breaths.
Carry on.

So bloody weird to be the only masked person in this airport. Even the queues for the various Asian airlines were bare-faced, and I swear masks used to be really common in a bunch of those culture. Have we gone *backwards*?

If you depend on a company to host, keep, or own something for you, know that there are only three ways this goes:
* company fails and "your" thing is gone,
* company succeeds and "your" thing becomes your leash as they milk then flense you in fees or privacy or both, or
* best case: "thing"s aren't valuable, the company stumbles along in mediocrity, and "your" thing stays "safe" in incompetent hands.

If you find yourself hoping your vendor isn't successful, that's a red flag.

It's syllabus time! Did you know that my coauthors and I have put out a (free) supplement for anyone who wants to add one day on design patents to their IP class:

I wonder whether Mick Jagger is aware of why he wasn't permitted to perform at the London Worldcon 58 years ago (as per Rob Hansen's new book 1965: The Second UK Worldcon)? Do you think if fandom apologizes, he'd be willing to pop by next year when Worldcon returns to the UK? https://taff.org.uk/ebooks.php?x=1965

Read a typical version of Hansel and Gretel to my nephew the other night and it's a very odd story. We talked about the village constable's experience of the tale: "Let me get this straight. You have all this treasure and there's a dead woman in an oven in the forest, and your stepmother is missing, and ... ok, tell me about the gingerbread again?"

I can’t stop thinking about how half the voters in America belong to a party where the front runner is facing 78 felonies and could be convicted before the election while the second place guy is running on a record of how racist (slavery actually taught slaves skills) and transphobic (I’m at war with Disney for being LGBTQ friendly) he is.

We can’t even pretend Republicans are a serious party. No meaningful policy initiatives, just cruelty and hate and selfishness masquerading as virtues.
