Kid's playing a video game as a spider character.

I look carefully at the spider model. It only has six legs.

Hey, kid, I say. That spider is missing legs. That's not a spider. You should file a bug report.

Low-key lost it when I noticed the main image on the Wikipedia page for business casual attire is just an edit of the nude figures from the Pioneer plaque

I miss those bottles of Modelo Especial which bore the inscriptions

DRINK SENSIBLY CONTAINS MALTED BARLEY

and

BEST BEFORE SEE BOTTOM

it lives!  JVM in Bash

for now it only has ~5 opcodes implemented, and one virtual method (println). So this is literally the minimal amount of Stuff to get a hello world working

next up, conditionals?

@cmconseils las ligaduras también
@cmconseils y la histerectomía también previene de algunos tipos de cáncer
@Xana Are you under the impression there’s such a thing as *elective hysterectomy* in this country? Furthermore, even if there were, insurance wouldn’t cover an elective procedure, & my hysterectomy cost $38k. @cmconseils
@Xana English please
Or french I don't care
@Xana Tubal ligation isn’t 100% effective (& can result in ectopic pregnancy, which ends in death in this political climate), & they’re EXTREMELY difficult to access unless you’re over 35 & already have children. @cmconseils
@BootsChantilly @Xana @cmconseils It took me 10 years to talk a doctor into giving me my tubal ligation. I can only hope it's gotten easier, but I very much doubt it.
@metagrrrl It took me 2 yrs. And I was 25, divorced, w/ one kid. I don’t know that it’s gotten easier, but there is a running thread on Reddit of OB/GYNs that will tie one’s tubes upon request w/o a bunch of bs. I got pregnant after my tubal, tho—3 in 100 do. So it’s not as uncommon as folks think. @Xana @cmconseils
@BootsChantilly @metagrrrl @Xana @cmconseils I think it’s gotten better (depending on your location). I was approved after 1 visit and had my surgery a few months later. 31, never married, just told my gyn that I didn’t want kids. They also opt to take the tubes entirely now to help with ectopic pregnancy risk.
@quietewe Phew. That's great to hear! Congratulations on exercising your bodily autonomy! 🥳
@quietewe The doc who finally did my tubal agreed to cut & cauterize. Turns out, he only looped & banded each tube. One of the bands pooped off. I got pregnant. I didn’t find out what he’d done until I had my hysterectomy (a diff OB/GYN) in 2010. I still get srsly stabby when I think about it. @metagrrrl @Xana @cmconseils

@BootsChantilly @metagrrrl @Xana @cmconseils Mea Madre solved the problem after I was born, after her divorced, and she threatened to castrate the doctor (had a rather nice Spiderco knife on her at the time). Still took ten years.

The excuse: "You might remarry and your husband might want children." Cue my mother going nuclear, "I don't give a fuck what he wants, had a kid, *I'm* done."

That was some forty years ago and I cannot even imagine that it's gotten anything but much, Much worse.

@elfin I'd assume it's getting worse in this political climate. I was told the same thing as your mom over & over. "What happens when you meet a nice man who wants babies?" I always answered that he'd have to figure out how to have & care for them bc I didn't want anymore. I'm 63 now--I never changed my mind. + @metagrrrl @Xana @cmconseils
@BootsChantilly @metagrrrl @Xana @cmconseils My mother is 70. She adopted a stray cat recently after a series of rescued Labradors. I like her solution (says the only child).
@elfin But it boggles my mind. Prioritizing some hypothetical man over my very real wants & needs? Holy crap, the misogyny is out of control in medicine. & bottom line, a "nice" man wouldn't pressure me to have babies I didn't want. UGH. /end @metagrrrl @Xana @cmconseils
@Xana @cmconseils que son las ligaduras?

@Simx72 @Xana @cmconseils

@bytes4life @zicoxy3 @Xana eso iba a decir xd

Tal vez me equivocó, caso tal me dicen plz
@cmconseils orchiectomies are better
@cmconseils oh no what did I do wrong?
@Adele Probably used a word that @cmconseils didn't know? (Orchiectomies are the surgical removal of one or both testes.)
@cmconseils This would look so much better if an actual artist did it
@mrencyclopedia @cmconseils I’m noticing that the main thing that tips me off that an image is AI-generated is weird shapes in abstract portions of the image—for example the horizontal hatching in the background of this image.
@melivia @cmconseils Yeah, abstract shapes aren't standardized in quite the same way that people and objects are, so generative models tend to do things that no human artist would do.
Other things like how she's holding the scissors in an awkward way no human would, and the cherry stem not passing between the blades, make it really clear to me.

@cmconseils Wow! You're getting a lot of negative comments over this post.

I have considered a vasectomy, but my wife and I are both a bit paranoid about pregnancy and even with a vasectomy, we would probably still use a condom. So, what is the point of the operation.

Maybe it is overkill, but we do not want kids.

@my_actual_brain @cmconseils the failure rate on vasectomies isn’t exactly zero, but closer to it than just about anything else out there.
@my_actual_brain @cmconseils
It has simplified things for me.
I don’t worry about getting someone pregnant , even if there is a condom failure(Happens more than I like).
I don’t stress about an unwanted pregnancy.
The women I have dated appreciate it as well for various reasons.
The procedure I had left little to no scarring and is very effective.
Definitely worth it.
@my_actual_brain @cmconseils
It was easy and I've never used a condom since.
In case that's useful.
@my_actual_brain @cmconseils If you want to avoid conceiving, a vasectomy is the best option imo. All the risk is up front in the weeks after the procedure but you’re in the clear once testing confirms you’re sperm-free. The place I went gave me a Swiss Army knife as a parting gift. I appreciated the humor :)

@my_actual_brain @cmconseils Defense in depth? Also, vasectomy has a significantly lower failure rate than condoms. It's cheaper over time, too :)

I'm another for whom it's been 100% effective. I supported one partner through an abortion before that, and have caused no pregnancies since.

I never wanted kids either, so it was a worthwhile investment in peace of mind.

@KatS @my_actual_brain @cmconseils

After three Kids it was planning for future motivating my wife and me. Facts:

For my wife: risky surgery with weeks and weeks or even months of suffering

For me: getting my act together mentally, 10 minutes of feeling shitty, a weekend of relaxation

Since those thirty years I've never ever regretted this step. I even wondered why not earlier.

Only machos are afraid. Real men are not and do this for their wives as a minimum

@p6 @KatS @my_actual_brain @cmconseils I fully agree. We have three kids, now it's my turn...
@KatS @my_actual_brain @cmconseils I'm sure you - nor your wife - won't regret!
@my_actual_brain @cmconseils You typically do a spermogram 3 weeks after the vasectomy to confirm that you’re now shooting blanks. I did mine after our second child about 8 years ago and my wife is very happy about not dealing with contraception anymore.

@courtcan @cmconseils @gabrielleblair

Hell yes vasectomies. Got mine a few months ago. Highly recommended.

The US State I live in became a forced-birth state after the fall of Roe vs. Wade.

IMO, a vasectomy is a very ethical choice compared to potentially causing a pregnancy that puts a person with a uterus’s life at risk.

@dusk @cmconseils @gabrielleblair We looked into a vasectomy for spouse, but our insurance is stupid and it would cost us too much. Fortunately, I am in perimenopause, so our days of needing to be concerned about this for *our* sake are numbered. 🤞

@cmconseils

How hard would it be to organize a postal mail campaign to send tens of thousands of prints of this to SCOTUS and select state AGs? (And other political jerks in other nations.)

@cmconseils

Forced birth is a crime against humanity and christo-fascism must fall.

But I never see the cancer risk mentioned when tubal ligation (which lowers the risk of a number of cancer types but comes with slightly greater risks during and after surgery) and vasectomy are being compared.
Vasectomy increases the risk of prostate cancer by 15%.
People need to be fully informed to make their health decisions (and governments need to stay the fuck away from these decisions).

@Soulshine
I've looked through several article results.
(Example: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5710573/)
I found nothing reporting 15% or even closer. Where did you find that?
The Association Between Vasectomy and Prostate Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Despite 3 decades of study, there remains ongoing debate regarding whether vasectomy is associated with prostate cancer. To determine if vasectomy is associated with prostate cancer. The MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Scopus databases were ...

@Soulshine
Interesting: An increase in prostate cancer and a decrease in all other cancers.
@ohmu
So there are two obvious factors:
Men who get vasectomies are also more likely to get PSA screenings which explains part of the 15% elevation.
But they also smoke and drink less which explains part of the 9% lower risk in other cancers.
