Transness is actually really awesome. It's the transphobia that sucks. If everyone responded to trans kids coming out with "thanks for telling me, I love you" and being affirming, trans kids would have GREAT childhoods.

Mir hat man bei der letzten Brandschutzbelehrung erzählt, Im Brandschutzhelferkurs habe man gelehrt, dass ich als blinde Mitarbeiterin in einen Raum mit Fenster gebracht werden soll, wenn es brennt, von dem aus ich rufen muss. Mich mitnehmen sollen die anderen Kollegen nicht, denn ich würde das Tempo beim Verlassen verlangsamen und könnte mich in der Hektik verletzen und den Verkehr aufhalten. Alle meine Kollegen haben einstimmig erklärt, sie würden mich trotzdem mitnehmen.

I was in a building looking down on the replacement for the Murrah Federal Building in OKC years ago. There was a commotion, and I saw a guy get assaulted on the sidewalk literally right in front of a door. After 2 minutes of nobody showing up, I ran down 9 flights of stairs, around two corners, and across the street, called him an ambulance and made sure he was OK. Belatedly, some security moseyed up.

Anyway, I think about that now and then when I consider how our government conducts itself.
