Mastodon has changed how I think. Twitter now seems like a server that doesn't want to federate with anyone else, and that everyone else has blacklisted. I'm in awe of how much sense that makes.
Hey #fediverse friends, I used the #fedfinder (correction: @debirdify ) #migrate tool and I thought I remember seeing a pie chart of which instances my followers etc were joining - but is there a similar tool for exploring #mastodon followers? Interested in moving off the big .social instance but not quiiiite sure where to land.

EFF's Atlas of Surveillance Database Now Documents 10,000+ Police Tech Programs

This week, EFF's Atlas of Surveillance project hit a bittersweet milestone. With this project, we are creating a searchable and mappable repository of which law enforcement agencies in the U.S. use surveillance technologies such as body-worn cameras, drones, automated license plate readers, and...

@jon You know, I think it’s a bit more complicated than that. I don’t doubt you’re right that new, non-motivated users need an algorithmic timeline to see enough benefits to continue use. That doesn’t mean that, long term, algorithmic timelines are ipso facto better. Or that they don’t have subtle negative effects on peoples’ experiences. Or that there aren’t other options (for example: presentations that aren’t strictly chronological but where the “rules” are less opaque).

37 years ago today on Nov 18, 1985, we first met a boy and his pet tiger. Happy Birthday! Though it’s been nearly 27 years since Calvin & Hobbes last graced us with a new tale, the last strip promised readers that his characters would continue to find new and exciting adventures!

7M people here. 400M on #twitter ... and yet it feels like we can move to the future. If #mastodon is to become a viable alternative, it needs to get newsmakers on here. So please encourage the larger users over there to come over here (or launch their own instance). With CBS checking out today, they should create their own instance in the #fediverse

Please boost if you agree

Honestly the kind of chaotic energy I aspire to. Hbomberguy is like some kind of trickster spirit.

A terrific Best Comics and Graphic Novels of the Year list from the Washington Post. Several books I missed.

I just noticed that Mastodon has Semiphemeral-like features built in, like in your preferences. So fucking cool
