It's not exactly #halloween but quite worrisome to look at this #poster promoting the 1971 Winter show 'Sparkler' of the #budapest #circus. Is that a #lion hunting down a circus #horse who has been crossed with a hedgehog? Who had more drugs: the #designer or the #management who green-lighted this? 🙃
The playbill of the 1951 West German release of Annie Get Your Gun. The story and the musical was and is unknown in Europe, hence the title was changed to 'Duel in the Circus'. While in other translations Annie was kept in the title (as 'queen', 'master shooter' or 'record breaker') distributors felt this would appeal for a wider audience. The Turkish title had even more pathos: 'Reward for Victory'.

September 1955: "Lord X" in Apollo Varieté Düsseldorf. He was the third act of the show and all we know about him is "Excellence amuses itself." To me it seems like he's ironing his butt and doesn't enjoy it very much. But what do I know?

The 1936 #Berlin #Olympics attracted a wide foreign audience, so the Wintergarten Varieté put on a sport-themed international show. One of the acts was Otto Feick's 1925 invention, the #Rhönrad Despite of their 'extraordinaires performances athlétiques', it did not become an olympic sport. Neither the 'Wonder Chimpanzee'-act before them.
Three #language advertisement of the Astoria in #Bratislava from the #1920s. Not to support the #fight for the use of minority #languages but to attract as many guests as possible. Actually, it's not three but five with the #French and the #English. Small town cosmopolitanism.
'I don't discover anyone! I can't get a contract for anyone! I don't receive anybody in such matter! No exceptions!' This message was hanging on the door of a well-known #Hungarian #theatre #journalist in the #30s. I wonder how efficient was it.

Revised manuscript submitted! I don't want to see text editors for the... well, until... tomorrow... or... maybe tonight?
