I've been thinking about Frances Hardinge's UNRAVELLER, the story of a young man who can unravel curses, and goes about trying to help people without fully understanding what trauma means. In this world, angry people on the fringes of society are given the power to curse—which can change the object of their fury into an animal, trap them, or change their body. Sometimes, the cursed become cursers. In a world of richly retold British lore, it's a very timely novel.

On Wednesday, Flora will have been part of our family, the sole cat in this house, and beloved companion of her three human subjects, for ten years. And as you can see, she has not lost a wisp of her grace and beauty.

In my writing book just now with a purring cat and a cuppa of chamomile with local honey.

Our son made his first loaves of bread! These are sourdough baguettes, using a starter that I’ve been keeping for a while. Very crispy, very tender, and so, so good!

I'm hearing a lot these days about how elementary and middle school boys are treating girls in their classes, and it makes me think why I wrote my debut novel for those kids. The Mad Wolf's Daughter is a medieval adventure about a girl who goes off to rescue her male war-band family when they're kidnapped by enemy knights.

I can't stop thinking about Agnès Varda's 2000 documentary "Les glaneurs et la glaneuse," which begins with this image: Varda posing as one of the famous paintings she shares. The film delves into modern gleaning: people gleaning potatoes, a gourmet chef who gleans herbs, salvagers (urban gleaners) gathering food, artists collecting sculpture parts, and Varda herself: a gleaner of images. Utterly brilliant, filled with respectful curiosity.

The Gleaners and I - The Criterion Channel

Directed by Agnès Varda • 2000 • France Starring Agnès Varda Agnès Varda’s extraordinary late-career renaissance began with this wonderfully idiosyncratic, self-reflexive documentary in which the French cinema icon explores the world of modern-day gleaners: those living on the margins who surviv...

Flora sheds a lot on this chair, so we put a couple of books on the seat to try to teach her not to sit there. She has so many other beds in the house that we felt this would be fine. Well, when the sun is on this chair, the books clearly don't bother her! Have you ever seen a cat so comfy on good literature?

This is a very simple scarf I’m making, but I really love it. I’m using just a garter stitch to highlight the inherent softness of this yarn (Urth Yarns sock) and make a loose-feeling, comfy knit, and ensure that the yarn's pattern is the scarf’s only pattern: beautiful evolving stripes.

I just finished the most amazing book of interconnected stories: Behind You Is the Sea by Susan Muaddi Darraj. It's about the lives of multiple generations of Palestinian-Americans, and delves into dreams, conflicts with tradition and family, taking care of yourself and others, and so much more. The characters are all vivid and engaging, and the final story wraps everything up beautifully. Such a good read.

Thank you, @michaelmagras, for this wonderful gift!

I knit this simple but lovely hipster hat with La Bien Aimee Merino DK, one of the best yarns I've ever used (it was so soft yet solid, and such a joy to knit). Doesn't the wonderful @michaelmagras look marvelous in it?
