#WritersCoffeeClub Dec 7 What future writing goals are you working towards with your present work?

I'm writing my first novel — a contemporary detective murder mystery — with the goal of writing a first novel, and eventually expanding it into a series. Future fiction goals include 2 - 3 other novels in different genres but with mystery elements.

I continue to write poetry with the goal of writing (better) poetry.

#WritersCoffeeClub From where did the inspiration for your current WIP come?

Short story I wrote for class a long time ago. It was based on a ridiculous prompt/set-up, so the story was not at all publishable — but I fell in love with the characters. Returned to them ages later, and here I am, book in progress.

I haven't tried this yet, as I'm not much for keeping an online library or reading list, or reviewing books. (Maybe I should be? Tell me if you think so!)

BookWyrm does looks pretty cool for avid #readers and people who love #books or #libraries.

#ScribesAndMakers Day 28: How do you feel about poems with rhymes?

As a writer and a reader, I expect rhyming poetry to offer a lot more than paired words that look/sound the same. It's hard to do well, and I've been exploring established forms more lately because of that challenge. Rhyming adds structure and rhythm, of course — but it can also pull the reader more deeply into a work, into its heartbeat, the way the words breathe, the stanzas spin inward and out again.

Are you one of those people who say "I'd rather read your crappy original writing than something generated by AI?" Now's the time to put your money where your mouth is!

I, without any previous experience, wrote 100 different short stories, around 1,000 words each, for a total of over 105,000 words! Find them on my #blog, or don't; it's a free country!

I Wrote One Short Story For 100 Days Straight And Here's What Happened

Another corner of the good ol' internet, another guy with opinions, another collection of 3AM thoughts dumped into HTML pages as if it were a good replacement for pen and paper.

Nowhere

"When revising, the beginning writer spends hours consulting the thesaurus, replacing a period with a semicolon, cutting adjectives, adding a few descriptive sentences—whereas the professional writer mercilessly lops off limbs, rips out innards like party streamers, drains away gallons of blood, and then calls down the lightning to bring the body back to life."
~ Benjamin Percy "Thrill Me"

There's an argument to be made that pros do both, but I still love this quote.
