#WritersCoffeeClub 19. How do you keep track of dates and events in a WIP?
I use spreadsheets. I know the year each character was born in, and the dates of the real-world events happening around them.
'Ceptin a wheen o people shooderin 'e fraucht o mony, hirtchin upo 'e gruesome plythe o a warld 'at didnae appear tae be thairs, ony mair.

Logged on to Draft2Digital for the first time in ages to a) prepare the new book for release (yay, book birthday coming up!) and b) get royalty reports for taxes (boo, paperwork!), and noticed my gay Vikings have finally overtaken my gay Victorians in monthly ebook sales.
Joke's on you, Little Wolf, I'm about to release more gay Victorians into the world.
#PennedPossibilities 818 — Put together a “paranormal investigation team” using your characters. Who’s doing what?
The devil-girl is now living with the as of yet unnamed school bully (don't ask, long story) in her ivory tower. The bully is a pretty smart about practically everything, except dealing with people, and she finds prompt 818. She's told write an essay about it for her language homework. Assemble a team? she wonders. Investigations? But what does paranormal mean? She looks it up in the dictionary as she heads downstairs to ask the devil-girl for input and finds her in the first floor gym. There she sees the devil-girl's thaumaturgy book is floating in front of her face as she walks the track, while will-o-the-wisp sprites float through the air to illuminate the room and in particular spotlight her open book.
Paranormal: Denoting events such as telekinesis and strange lights in the night that…
The bully snaps the dictionary closed and turns back for the stairs. "That's not paranormal, that's simply science. Stupid assignment."

Madness. Is it the cerebral cortex of calamity, the whole cerebrum, or something more? I think about this as I watch the light reflect from the silver point. Maybe it is a part of the brain we have yet to explore. Like the ocean’s depths: so close, and yet, so far. We humans like to […]

My least successful event today in terms of sales, but two things made it more than worth my while:
1. A kid told me he doesn’t read, but my book sounded cool enough that he bought it so he could try to get back into it.
2. A couple came up and told me their son writes and wants to self publish some day. Asked some questions and I shared what I could. Offered up my email if he ever has questions and wants to know what I’ve done.
You start dying slowly not when you face death —
but when you stop living deeply.
Brazilian poet Martha Medeiros reminds us to travel, risk, feel, and dream —
before routine gently erases our fire.Read the full poem (often misattributed to Neruda):

Within about half an hour of submitting the print files for my latest book, my brain pipes up with a much better final line.
WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS???
Not a big deal, I can resubmit once Ingram Spark processes the title (and I suspect I’ll have to re-do the cover anyway thanks to a transparency issue), it just delays ordering the print proof copy because they take a few more days to process the re-submission, so I start getting a little worried. But I think I’m still on track for November 16 🤞
In the meantime, I will make and read through the ebook version.
(I am actually very satisfied with the new final line, so: thanks for being like this, brain, mostly.)
That feeling when a beta reader gives you a bonkers interpretation of a passage and you're staring at it trying to figure how they came to their conclusions and you just can't get it.
