#WritersCoffeeClub Dec 7 What future writing goals are you working towards with your present work?

I'm writing my first novel — a contemporary detective murder mystery — with the goal of writing a first novel, and eventually expanding it into a series. Future fiction goals include 2 - 3 other novels in different genres but with mystery elements.

I continue to write poetry with the goal of writing (better) poetry.

#WritersCoffeeClub From where did the inspiration for your current WIP come?

Short story I wrote for class a long time ago. It was based on a ridiculous prompt/set-up, so the story was not at all publishable — but I fell in love with the characters. Returned to them ages later, and here I am, book in progress.

I haven't tried this yet, as I'm not much for keeping an online library or reading list, or reviewing books. (Maybe I should be? Tell me if you think so!)

BookWyrm does looks pretty cool for avid #readers and people who love #books or #libraries.

#ScribesAndMakers Day 28: How do you feel about poems with rhymes?

As a writer and a reader, I expect rhyming poetry to offer a lot more than paired words that look/sound the same. It's hard to do well, and I've been exploring established forms more lately because of that challenge. Rhyming adds structure and rhythm, of course — but it can also pull the reader more deeply into a work, into its heartbeat, the way the words breathe, the stanzas spin inward and out again.

@alan Glad I could help!

@alan Just some ideas, hope they help.

Going through something similar! I hit about 47k words (including notes, etc.) and just got bogged down in backstory and side plots. A friend in an online crime fiction group gave me some blunt advice about rising tension and not losing readers. I took her words to heart and waded into a complete restructuring — and the change is amazing. I'm focused, the work feels alive again. Editing has always been key to my process, but now it feels like some kind of superpower.
