A year and a half ago, Emmanuel Defossez and Pierre-Marie Allard started brainstorming a seemingly crazy idea: to profile the metabolic content of all species on our planet. What began as a light-hearted joke during breaks has evolved into the concrete and ambitious Earth Metabolome Initiative (EMI).
