`R:Pak` is pretty good! Really impressed with the installation messaging, especially having not used R for a while!

Another Approach to Package Installation

The goal of pak is to make package installation faster and more reliable. In particular, it performs all HTTP operations in parallel, so metadata resolution and package downloads are fast. Metadata and package files are cached on the local disk as well. pak has a dependency solver, so it finds version conflicts before performing the installation. This version of pak supports CRAN, Bioconductor and GitHub packages as well.

@cytokine_storm I'm assuming you're already familiar with https://xeno-canto.org/ ? :)
xeno-canto :: Sharing wildlife sounds from around the world

Last night’s birdlife WA speaker night introduced me to a database of partially annotated bird calls. This is going to be VERY useful the next time I am trying to learn a bird’s calls!

Bird Sounds Global web portal | WILDLABS

A new web portal for annotating bird sounds has been opened called Bird Sounds Global (BSG). It is part of project LIFEPLAN, and its key objective is to develop global, automated software for bird sound identification.

@cytokine_storm i'm not sure what you imagined the point of this post to be but of course i am aware of wikipedia and that is not what i'm talking about at all. actually the conflation of wikis as such with wikipedia is another piece of the idea here. i'm trying to log off but here: https://jon-e.net/infrastructure/#the-wiki-way

This shot of a little wattlebird on a leucospermum (?) might be the best single frame I shot in Australia.

(You may need to click to see the image, given the portrait orientation.)

This little guy has finally broken 800g, weighing in at 817g this evening.

I'm not quite counting it as a win yet, because we still have a couple of hundred grams left to go, and because this was his evening weight after his feeds today.. his morning weight was 760g this morning.

Also, he has a touch of bumble foot on both front paws, which I'm treating with saline soaks.

He has another vet appointment next week.. I'm still hoping I may be able to cancel it.

@strykeroz I am surprised the female would have tail feathers that are longer than the male's tail feathers.

In Denmark, both sexes of our Eurasian wrens have a similar color and tail length.

It is a common guest in my garden, because it loves to find insects in the cracks of our dry stone walls.
