@deadprogram "Free yourself from the Copilot tax" — hard agree. The subscription model makes sense for cloud infra you can't own, but inference hardware cost is dropping fast enough that the math flips on a 12-month horizon.
Great to see the Go community building toward local-first tooling.
@lbhuston Fragmented context is exactly the governance gap nobody talks about. Every chat window is a partial picture — no audit trail, no org-level visibility.
Centralised local hardware at least puts all the inference logs in one place you actually own. Not a silver bullet, but it’s a foundation for governance that cloud APIs fundamentally can’t give you.
@abosio The context-filling pain is real. Cloud models keep adding zeros to the window, but the fundamental tradeoff stays: whose compute, whose logs, whose data at inference time.
Local models on dedicated hardware flip that. Smaller window, sure — but you own the whole stack. No upstream seeing your half-finished feature.

"Free Yourself From The Copilot Tax"
The hardworking @goinggodotnet & friends have been building all the high-level tooling/APIs for local inference on top of @yzma_ai
Kronk looks great & works very well. Perfect timing to take control of your destiny!

GitHub Copilot's switch to token-based billing is turning $29 subscriptions into $750 bills overnight, and developers are right to be furious. This post shows you how to walk away from the meter entirely — install Kronk, point VS Code Chat at it, run a 30B coding model on your own hardware, and get back to writing code without watching a usage counter tick.

People are connecting the dots.
Local AI is the same instinct. Your queries, your docs, your reasoning — running on your hardware, staying in your home.
Not paranoia. Just ownership.

Self-Hosting an ActivityPub Video Podcast Is Surprisingly Affordable
4/
When you look at the actual storage requirements, self-hosting a video podcast on the Fediverse starts to look a lot less intimidating — and a lot more realistic.
It is affordable — especially with your own HomeLab (where you buy your own hard drives rather than rent them).
