You thought paying for your seat was annoying? If Meta's "Pay or Okay" approach is legitimised by the EDPB, paying an extra fee for your privacy will become a standard for other services as well.

I do ransomware response for really critical infrastructure - like electric power, water, transit systems, manufacturing, oil for a living. I have to be mostly be emotionally detached, even when lives are at risk - that's triage.

Sometimes, when nobody gets hurt I even raise an eyebrow or raise a glass at a new tactic. But let's make one thing clear:

If you ransom a children's cancer hospital, you are irredeemable scum. You know exactly what you're doing, and you chose to potentially delay or disrupt treatment for suffering little kids.

Ransomware gang seeks $3.4 million after attacking children’s hospital

Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago had announced a cybersecurity incident earlier this month. The attackers have claimed intrusions into more than a dozen other hospitals' networks.

I was teasing this scoop last week, and only held publication of it until the company confirmed it had addressed the problem:

The Minnesota-based Internet provider U.S. Internet Corp. has a business unit called Securence, which specializes in providing filtered, secure email services to businesses, educational institutions and government agencies worldwide. But until it was notified last week, U.S. Internet was publishing more than a decade's worth of its internal email -- and that of thousands of Securence clients -- in plain text out on the Internet and just a click away for anyone with a Web browser.

Microsoft just announced that they were breached by the SVR, the same Russian intelligence agency that broke into Solarwinds.

This is a big deal, and Microsoft owes all of us a much more detailed description of what happened.

As a doctor, I have to agree: this is madness. There are no approved treatments for #LongCovid. Zero. You can’t put that chronic illness genie back in the bottle, folks.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. There is no cure. #MedSpout #Covid19

If you've read my #COVID19 posts, you know this. If you haven't, here's your chance to get better informed so you can make safer decisions for yourself and your family.

"While the short-term effects of COVID-19 can be flu-like, even mild cases can lead to long COVID – a constellation of problems that can persist for weeks or months. More than 200 symptoms have been linked to long COVID, said Hernandez, who has overseen many COVID-19 studies." (1/2)

Today is the last day you can boost this post.
I’m George Takei and I support this message.

Google announced that starting in June 2024, ad blockers such as uBlock Origin #uBO will be disabled in Chrome 127 and later with the rollout of Manifest V3 (#Mv3).

The new #Chrome manifest will prevent using custom filters and stops on demand updates of blocklist. Only #Google authorized updates to browser extension will be allowed in the future, which mean an automatic win for Google in their battle to stop YouTube #AdBlockers .

#ManifestV3 is deceitful and threatening to your privacy, and now is a good time to switch to #Firefox (@mozilla) and/or #TorBrowser (@torproject) if you haven't done so already!

Chrome Manifest V3 Transition Timeline (2023-11-16)

EDIT for clarification: MV3 in Chrome will still allow some ad blocking extensions, but will severely limit their blocking ability and even restricts pre-set filters to 50 MAX.

Chrome Users Beware: Manifest V3 is Deceitful and Threatening

Like FLoC and Privacy Sandbox before it, Google Chrome’s Manifest V3 is another example of the inherent conflict of interest that comes from Google controlling both the dominant web browser and one of the largest internet advertising networks.
