#Adblocking is alive and well, despite #Chrome's attempts to make it harder
#Google Chrome's latest revision of its browser extension architecture, known as #ManifestV3 (MV3), was widely expected to make content blocking and #privacy extensions less effective than its predecessor, #ManifestV2 (MV2).
"Our results reveal no statistically significant reduction in ad-blocking or anti-tracking effectiveness for MV3 #adblockers compared to their MV2 counterparts"

This feels new in the war against ad blockers… Sites seemingly intentionally crashing if your ad blocker is not disabled?

Well congratulations you’ve lost me as a visitor to your site ever again.

How-To Geek: YouTube is breaking ad blockers again. “This immediate fix that came when not using an adblocker is a pretty clear signal of what is happening here. YouTube has not officially acknowledged the problem, which is typical for silent updates to anti-adblock detection scripts.”

Oh, look! #Iran played a game of "No Internet For You" with #Starlink, while Forbes reminds us that, in 2023, reading an article without enabling #JavaScript is apparently an Olympic sport. 🥇✨ Meanwhile, ad blockers are still the sworn enemy of #journalism, because who needs page aesthetics when you can have a circus of pop-ups? 🎪💻

Speaking of /etc/hosts files. For probably a decade I've based my local /etc/hosts file on data supplied here:
https://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm
Any #Linux or #Windows types out there know of a good replacement for this file? The site hasn't been updated since 2021; getting out of date. My half-dozen ad blockers (etc) help, of course, but still looking for replacement.
(Yeah yeah, running Win10 + Cygwin, but don't beat me up yet; I've been a hard-core Unixoid since the UCB 7th edition days.)
