@MarkHoltom We live in Canada, we are from France, and my husband has a very heavy French accent in English.

From time to time he gets “I don’t speak French“ when he says something in English. To this, I answer always something French more or less sarcastic depending on my mood. And then magically his accent is not anymore an issue. 🤷‍♀️🙄

The "konaskaut" in Norway was common I think into the 20th century.

Calvinist Zwartekousenkerk women in the Netherlands had distinctive headwear. I remember seeing two old women about 20 years ago on a cycle tour in Holland in traditional clothing complete with headwear.

I also remember as a child old women on the Croatian coast with head scarves that covered their hair.

Hair and the display or hiding of it seem to be part of a number of religions around the world.
