A scene of modern Britain
@MarkHoltom I can believe this story can be true. I saw people being told on a bus in Glasgow for speaking Scottish Gaelic :)
@TOrynski @MarkHoltom
Nowadays not many people know that children in Scottish areas where Gaelic had been common were physically punished at school and home if they spoke it.
@Clutha @TOrynski @MarkHoltom Whereas now there are primary schools and even higher where it's the primary language.
@ariaflame @TOrynski @MarkHoltom
Agreed & after the 1st one opened in Glasgow it was oversubscribed & I believe there are now two more.

@Clutha @ariaflame @TOrynski @MarkHoltom A friend of mine talking to the English shop keeper in Beàrnaraigh na Hearadh:

A bheil aran agaibh?
- Blank stare

Haben Sie Brot?
- Blank stare

You don't speak the language of the people who live here, you don't speak the language of the most prominent tourist group that comes here, what are you doing here?

@Clutha @TOrynski @MarkHoltom there's still weans in the schools being punished for speaking Scots.
@simon_brooke @Clutha @MarkHoltom just check how much shit Lenn Pennie gets on her social media...
