Hello world! I have a new article out: SCIENCE FOR ALL AT CERN (in May Number of PhysicsToday). It will tell you more about why this famous "big science" lab in Geneva has started to offer educational programs for all its employees: https://pubs.aip.org/physicstoday/article/77/5/44/3283592/Science-for-All-at-CERNIn-the-1960s-CERN-initiated
Science for All at CERN

In the 1960s CERN initiated a series of popular-science talks for nonacademic staff in the belief that getting them interested in science was key to its becomin

I reviewed an article for @HDiplo on "The Origins of Euratom’s Research on Controlled Thermonuclear Fusion". The article provides well-researched insights in politics by means of international scientific exchange, 1958-1968! #fusion #History & #scidip

I had the great honor of reviewing 1 of the best contributions to #history of #science in 2022 - THE SQUARES (by @ccmmody; Open Access at MIT Press): https://muse.jhu.edu/pub/1/article/879621

Here`s my own take on how a square scientist - a representative of the "silent majority" in the 1970s - looked like:

@barbara_hof It's great to see people talking about PLATO, even if it wasn't the first computer learning system, it happened so early that it's got bunches of other firsts.

When Pong was displaying a stable image on a TV set with discrete logic, PLATO already had graphical displays for like eight years. The main caveat was it was all extremely expensive, running its software off of a mainframe.

There is a new article in the world about PLATO System💻🖥️! (PLATO wasn`t the "world’s first computer learning system" (perhaps the first outside the military?); but PLATO is indeed important for understanding the history of e-learning) #edtech #history

Here's my review of @driscoll`s THE MODEM WORLD - the book explores little-known aspects from the (pre)history of social media, c. 1978-1995. The book's call to imagine a post-commercial online world hits the nerve of our time!

Can't recommend this book enough (go buy & read it)! I especially hope that the book will encourage scholars outside the US to explore the history of their local BBSs (that's still a niche).

“Provides students with an accessible overview of the interdisciplinary field of Science and Technology Studies (STS). The discipline breaks down traditional conceptions of knowledge as universal, neutral and ahistorical, and takes a more critical approach to science and technology as social embedded phenomena.”
