I had the great honor of reviewing 1 of the best contributions to #history of #science in 2022 - THE SQUARES (by @ccmmody; Open Access at MIT Press): https://muse.jhu.edu/pub/1/article/879621

Here`s my own take on how a square scientist - a representative of the "silent majority" in the 1970s - looked like:

Project MUSE - The Squares: US Physical and Engineering Scientists in the Long 1970s by Cyrus C. M. Mody (review)

I absolutely LOVE this straightforward question in a student`s term paper in #history of #computing ! (#grading is fun)

Ever heard of Mighty Mouse?

From 1957 to 1959, Mighty Mouse was not only a #TV superhero animal, but also the #code name of a heavy water research #reactor at Argonne National Laboratory, with permission of CBS television... At a time when the commercial use of #AtomicEnergy was still a pipe dream, several reactors had fantasy names - my undisputed favorite is the "ARGONAUT" from 1957.

(Short best-of of my #archival #research at NARA Chicago; at #HSS conference tomorrow, looking forward).

Arrived in #Chicago yesterday and headed to one of the many US national #archives today

Hope to see some of you later this week at the #HSS2022 conference!
