all operating systems suck uniquely. find the one that sucks the least for you and use it. also, shut up about it.
EDIT: "shut up about it", is about OS proselytizing. share all you like, just don't pressure me to use what you use. it'd be hypocritical to say this as I certainly don't shut up about my love for OpenBSD.

@jmc this is where it appears to hang on both machines, the top process on htop appears to be doing something, but it stays that way until I give up waiting (i left it overnight once).
Also, interestingly, the ksh93 process does not die when I Ctrl-C the nightly script.
I wondered if it could just be taking a really really long time due to the git status in oh-my-bash.
I have saved the log too, if you want it, but don't think i can post that here.
@jmc I'm going to try and reproduce it on a second computer.
I was surprised restoring the original .bashrc worked, I assumed it was something else I was doing wrong - I suppose it may have been a coincidence.
If I can reproduce it, I'll save the log.

Okay, maybe let it die then. Maybe we can get back to building tech that actually works rather than hyping up hallucinating plagiarism machines in order to fluff up corporate quarterly reports.
If generative AI just went away tomorrow, it would be a net positive for the world.
