Theoretical astrophysicist who ended up in computing, which got a bit out of hand and resulted in Tribblix, my personal illumos distribution.
We've been away for a few days in Verulamium (that's St Albans in modern naming). Romans, Tudors, parks, and the Cathedral. Plus food, drink, museums and markets. All in pretty decent weather, which was a bonus.

Observations on Tribblix m39

I've just announced the latest release of Tribblix - m39, now available for download and upgrades. This follows the "when I feel like it"...

It might be early in Spring, but Mrs T is spending her day planning trips to Christmas Markets.

In OpenJDK development, the rule for update releases is that changes should be applied in mainline first and then backported.

Unfortunately, because mainline doesn't have Solaris support any more, this means that changes touching the OS layer don't work, because there isn't a Solaris version of the change in mainline. Especially for jdk11u, where Solaris is supposed to be supported.

I try and catch these by watching the mailing lists, but that might miss the odd one.

Looking through the LinkedIn thread brought to mind how we used to use Solaris Zones at work. It was incredible. I gained a lot of valuable experience from Sun. That was likely the most legendary company on Earth.
If prosperity were measured in consultations, feasibility studies, and outline business cases then we would be rich beyond the dreams of avarice.
