To be fair to them, they are trying to solve for a combination of instruction and current-deployments.

I have a big-fricking "switch" but I use it to replace a bunch of small 8-port netgear trusty blue-GS1xx, because they don't make the equivalent in 1/2.5/5/10G yet. My routers are #illumos zones.

I like smaller pieces for the same reasons of understanding & repairability. One of the @SystemsAppr folks was a strong proponent of micro-protocols.

Never mind just Linux; this would seem to raise serious issues for any group producing their own kernel without an army of lawyers on staff e.g. *BSD, RedoxOS, Graphene, ReactOS, Haiku, illumos and perhaps even plan9 and operating system textbooks and learning frameworks like FluxOSKit. There is furthermore some significant scariness about packets crossing borders rendering ppl liable for violations of all this when passing through spaces wherein USA agents may apprehend them.

gnulib adding bogus "Solaris 12" code that breaks illumos, which gets embedded into loads of upstream releases, which all require manual patching.

@hwd Die Leute, die OpenOffice zu LibreOffice geforkt hatten, haben als allererstes zwei Dinge getan: 1. Alle Kommentare von Deutsch nach Englisch übersetzt (fair enough) 2. alle Solaris-spezifischen Konfigurationen entfernt, damit das möglichst nicht mehr baut, um Oracle zu "bestrafen". Damit haben sie aber hauptsächlich die Leute getroffen, die illumos-basierte OS-Distros pflegten (not fair at all). Das zeigt, wes Geistes Kind die sind... #illumos

#NixOS experimenting with my Atom 330 (4 threads 1.6Ghz 2Gb DDR2)
Currently hooked up to a 76Gb #WDraptor (just for the lovely sound)
I think most of the machine is timely accurate
around 2008, at least late 2000

Only thing nagging me is i can't connect the container to the lan card as i would on the #illumos variants i tried
I had to configure a bridge

ram usage is around 400Mb

@BRicker I don't think it's really diverged much. #SunMicrosystems begat #OpenSolaris. Then Oracle unbegat it and the community begat #IllumOS by forking the last free release. There are then a bunch of distributions like #OmniOS and #Tribblix.
