It seems #Plan9 has a weird syntax for URLs, but I guess it has in mind different network stacks. It goes something like this protocol!host_name!port. Some programs like ssh can omit that by using username@host_name, but if you have a non-standard port, you have to use the full url.

The best beginners guide (for nerds) to get started with Plan 9 OS / 9front is this one https://pspodcasting.net/dan/blog/2019/plan9_desktop.html besides the obvious https://fqa.9front.org I highly recommend giving it a look if you are interested in this operating system. #9front #plan9

Hey Plan 9 peeps, esoteric question:

In 9P, are there actual use-cases for flushing a Tflush? The semantics of such a thing are defined in flush(5), but is this useful?

The best I can think of is perhaps simplifying clients that wish to gracefully hang up; just have them flush all outstanding tags without having to check whether it's a Tflush.

After a longer lecture about #Kubernetes, I came to the conclusion that #Plan9 is anti-Kubernetes. It runs one operating system on many physical computers and relies on the fact that all systems are physically separated. That makes everything very fault tolerant, because any side cpu server (They just can PXE boot) can block and you can restart it, without damaging any data. because it does not have a file system and you literally can turn off your terminal from the switch (without a shutdown procedure) or just pull the plug.
This architecture has the advantage, that it can be built from garbage computers. I mean literally computers from the garbage.
