@SmartmanApps @josh I think I know that feeling, and 3G decommissioning is at least an honest reason.
The gradual Android deprecation thing is sneakier. No real benefits, just quiet pressure to upgrade. Looks to me like planned obsolescence with extra steps.
@aproposnix it should do better at least in terms of updates. Fairphone pays a lot of attention to it. If I'm not mistaken today they were going to release Android 16 for Fairphone 6.
@urslesse Thank you!
Solid history indeed, and great choices.
k700i was a mighty device, almost like it's "big brother" k750i.

Twelve years with one phone.
My story of what I carried, why I kept it, why I finally let it go — and why the answer was a Fairphone.
Things should serve you, age alongside you, and go out with dignity. It is a simple principle, but it shapes every purchase I make.

@blainsmith
The main argument I hear against self-hosted repos is "I need to register to contribute."
But that's two or three minutes with masked email confirmation?
A small price for independence, I think.

Extended my time tracking extension for Gnome with automatic window focus detection. Timers now activate when you focus a window matching your regex rules.
No more remembering to turn the timer on when switching projects and activities.

Happy Birthday @blainsmith!

IS500 is a beast 💪 What color is it?

Curious, since it stays in the garage, what is the cover intention? Dust?

@blainsmith
+1 for Sony WH-1000XM series.

It is awesome in noise suppression, works flawlessly in Linux (openSUSE at least), decent microphone for conferencing.

Even though mine XM4 has no USB, it can be connected via single 3.5 jack with microphone support.

Wearing it for 6-8 hours straight without discomfort. 4th and 5th generations available for less than $200.

@blainsmith well formulated. Same opinions, almost word-to-word.

Thank you for sharing!

@jasongorman Good point about governments.
[looking around and whispering] In some places trusting the state with wealth feels like throwing money into a black hole.

Corruption and inefficiency — it doesn’t always work as intended.

The monkey analogy is funny 😄 Though humans are more complex, I think. It’s not just about hoarding vs. sharing. Something beyond survival instincts. Sure, it’s maybe not a perfect solution, but sometimes it’s better than relying on broken system, don’t you think?
