Hi everyone! I finally made it and am excited to be here. I haven't been very active on social media for some time, but am looking forward to this new platform.
About me: I'm a first year assistant professor in the Environmental Science dept. at an undergraduate university in Colorado. The position is teaching heavy, and I'm currently trying to figure out how to be a better teacher while also finding time to conduct research on the ecology and body size distributions of stream communities.
We need to have a community discussion.
I added a new rule that I hope will avoid for-profit content on the server. (https://alxsimon.github.io/ecoevo.social-docs/rules.html)
But what do we do about for-profit journals?
My position is that journals managed by societies are welcome, but what about the other ones? Do we allow them on the server?
My personal view is that they shouldn't be allowed here as they are not contributing back to the community (#AcademicParasites).
My @ecoevo #Introduction!
I'm a plant ecologist at Union College. I study restoration ecology and invasive species.
I love to bicycle, eat good food, and travel - although I don't do the three at the same time often enough.
Maintaining a #WhisperNetwork to keep colleagues & students safe because #academia STILL fails to hold harassers accountable = so much lost time that could otherwise go to my research & research collaborations + extreme bitterness toward a very broken system. But -- no regrets.
I sincerely hope those who come after me have fewer hidden explosives to navigate & can focus on their work.... We just want to be scientists!! 😞
For people wondering how to migrate server, I've written a guide that I hope will be more detailed than the ones I have seen so far.
Don't hesitate to share to anyone lost.

And let me know if I made any mistake or details are missing.
I'm a PhD student at #universityofglasgow School of Biodiversity, One Health and Vet Medicine, studying the genetic and cellular basis of viviparity and oviparity, using common lizards as a model. Hobbies include: videogames, Warhammer 40k, hiking and biking.
Please follow if you are: into #lizards/#herps, into #evolution/#evolutionarybiology, into #cellbiology and #molecularbiology, into #omics or otherwise interested in hearing about my research!
