Pro tip for repairing things with #3dprinting: flatbed scanners! You probably still have one somewhere, they allow for precise measurements of complex geometries, and can usually fit larger objects than your printer. It often works even if the bottom surface isn't perfectly flat. Most of them shine light from the side, so rotating objects to get better contrast may help.

VTech makes DECT phones these days, and one of them is... uhm... something. https://www.vtechphones.eu/de-de/home-phones/cordless-phone/LS1350

German Elections: Did the Eastern Bloc Vote Radically? Not Exactly

The German parliamentary elections were held on Sunday. At first glance, it may seem that former East Germany has become radicalized, but this is quite a distorted view.

Huh, Conway’s Game of Life is surprisingly quick to implement in numpy once you find the right methods.
Again, thank you Wikipedia.
Happy Halloween! 🎃

@__michaelg Yeah…

Attached: 1 image Combining Centre Positive and Centre Negative would solve the problem of incorrect connections.

@adorfer @scy @__michaelg Noooooooo! 🥵
@DK4HAA @scy @__michaelg
CenterNegative is quite common on traditional Japanese Electronics.
The car makers in Japan just kept going with it for a few years after Ford&Crysler went to ChassisOnGround.
Photo shows a current(!) Brother P-Touch label printer.
@adorfer @DK4HAA @scy @__michaelg I can confirm that. Very common with Japanese devices...

Another Deluge user!
Where did you get that shortcuts overlay?
Deluge (Synthstrom Audible) - Instrument Overlay

Xluge Complete Colors - Instrument Overlay' *magnetic* for alternative and intuitive design + unlabeled (shift) functions. High-quality operating template (front film, skin) for the Deluge sequencer, synthesizer, sampler, groovebox by Synthstrom Audible.

@scy @__michaelg I wonder why center-negative is so common in audio equipment, my guitar pedals all have center-negative...
@elly
"chassis-ground on plus" was the standard for cars, trucks and tractors in the US into the 1950ies, so did the (at that time) non-stereo-car-stereos ;-) which were tube radios.
Companies with "car radio" roots just reused their existing schematics/function blocks for guitar amplifiers.
And since "preserving/remodeling the good old xyz-sound" is a thing on guitar amps, keeping the legacy designs of the 1950ies alive as much as possible is a thing i can relate to.
@__michaelg @scy
@__michaelg The one true connector. Sorry, not sorry. *bang* Damnit.
@__michaelg Yea, I built one of these. It's a replacement charger for my Epson HX-20.
@__michaelg device power marking? En eso economía?
@__michaelg Most applications of that type of connector have the centre pin as positive(+). Ouch!
@__michaelg I have at least one device that is spooky like that. aaaa!
@__michaelg Most guitar effects pedals (and many electronic musical instruments) - but not all.
@__michaelg You too!

(I've in fact blown the fuse on this device once already)
@__michaelg I add labels to those to prevent future damage.
@Peetz0r @__michaelg skull and crossbones is not enough. they need to add a symbol for this to iso 7010
@Peetz0r @__michaelg Are there still some of those around? Old Japanese electronics made in the 1980s sometimes had center negative. Are there modern laptops wired like that?

@mike805 @__michaelg This is an HP Onmibook from 1996.

But I have an Casio keyboard (CTK-481) that has a center negative barrel jack.

And a Brother labelmaker from 2017 that also has a center negative barrel jack.

@Peetz0r @__michaelg i just never take anything for granted and take things apart to probe known ground pins for continuity with the jack, but tbh your idea is better

also many old japanese things use that polarity; famicom, mega drive/genesis, master system, roland mt-32, roland sc-55, snes/super famicom

@__michaelg
My Casio PT-10 is the first thing that comes to mind when I see this.
’87 though, so I can excuse it.
@__michaelg one of the reasons why I got rid of my Q-tron
@__michaelg Yeah for some reason centre negative became the standard in guitar pedals and pretty much nothing else
@__michaelg plot twist the positive side is ground
@Gulfie @__michaelg Pretty common in old devices using thermionic valves, aka tubes. Ground is then often the middle voltage, logic is negative and heating is actually over 100V positive.
@__michaelg Argh! Put some content-warning!
@__michaelg SONY Walkman and old Yaesu Tranceiver.
@__michaelg I think I have one or two devices that do that…
@__michaelg Also known as "why none of my guitar pedals work"

@__michaelg

the trick is center negative

the treat is when they were too cheap to build in a blocking diode.

@__michaelg This is standard for guitar pedals, the zx spectrum and so many other things.
@__michaelg Ah all my 9V guitar pedals uses such 5525 jacks...
@__michaelg I have the crucifix for this evil.
@__michaelg that's regular life of an average guitarist.
@__michaelg from #c16 psu to #zx81.
C16 center is negative.
@__michaelg I'd say it was pretty common to see in the '90s. Always check polarity.
@__michaelg why is Plus about to chomp off the tip of Minus' enormous bulbous penis?
@__michaelg The scariest monsters are the ones that actually exist!
