I’m alive, just more active on Bluesky (as @ratkins.net). Come and say hi!
I’m only here today because Bluesky seems to be down 😂
The insanity of locking up community event information in Facebook is crystalized in the fact that FB prevents you from copying basic event info (date, time, title) to the clipboard from your browser. Organizations think they are getting the word out, and FB is blocking the word.
Amazing, a reasonable and factual Bluesky take on *Mastodon* of all places!

All of a sudden I’m having weird shit happening with Apple Pay transactions. Getting errors about “invalid address” or “invalid phone number” (the phone number is valid, and Apple Pay worked fine with this site before.) Who do I even complain to, the site or Apple (how)?

Bluesky now growing at a rate of 12-13 users per second

So why am I beating this drum?

Product design matters, protocol ideology is not enough, and disliking capitalism is not an exemption from economics

You will read a lot of copium about the fediverse still being viable, but it is now the smaller development target. That has consequences.

fundamentally all social networks will inevitably face the same problem by which facebook was brung low: people don't want to share a social context with their parents.
Bluesky can be built into something that is good and human and decentralized and usable

There is no future where Threads is anything other than a vehicle for one of the worst companies in the world to centralize more power, control information, and spam you with ads and AI slop
