I roamed & I rambled & I followed my footsteps... ~Woody Guthrie. I love the mountains & the sea equally.

My colleagues Christine Jacobson and Kristine Greive have just opened a fabulous exhibition called "Do It Yourself! Self-Publishing from Letterpress to Laser Jet" https://library.harvard.edu/exhibits/do-it-yourself

Creatively and expansively exploring the history of producing texts to avoid censorship and social constraint, for creative control, or for profit, I think it's a must-see for any neighborhood @bookstodon.

Do It Yourself!

This exhibition features material from the 18th century to the present day that shows why and how people self-publish.

My standing stone this Sunday: “One of Dublin's oldest cemeteries, Bully's Acre features a large 10th-century decorated granite cross shaft, possibly the remains of the boundary cross or 'termon' associated with St. Maigneann's Monastery founded in 606 CE”

For #StandingStoneSunday , here’s the two-sided Dreenan Figure or Janus Stone in Caldragh Cemetery on #BoaIsland in #LoughErne , #Fermanagh . I took these snaps on a very wet day in early January 2016.

More information about the figure and his shorter comrade and neighbour, the Lustymore Man, is here: https://www.tuatha.ie/boa-island/

Two remarkable figures stand incongruously amongst the 19th & 20th century headstones of Caldragh Cemetery on Boa Island in Co. Fermanagh.

Some #writingadvive for any #writers out there. Get a mic or your phone and record at least some of your dialogue. It helps form a greater connection to your characters and how they talk. Even if it sounds silly in a funny accent it can be worth it just to hear what's going on.. #WritingCommunity #writingtips
This is an important article, but it makes it sound as if these discussions were started around the inspiration from the BLM movement. The statutes, as well as some Fiesta events have been out front issues and getting called out for the racism and brutality they symbolize for decades there. Search the newspaper archives for the articles starting at least in the 1980’s onward. Film archives for the shows highlighting the anniversary of The Pueblo Revolt as well. https://mastodon.world/@NateX/109697025290012030

Did you know? Half of all U.S. states, 25 to be exact, carry Indigenous names. Today we will be taking a look at the 25 states and the meanings of their names. They will be listed in alphabetical order under this post.

I created https://MontereyBay.social to be a place for folks in the Monterey Bay area to call home on the Fediverse. If the idea of a "local Local" feed resonates with you and you don't mind some bumps while I figure out how to be an admin, take a look at the server rules and sign up for an account. Anyone can join, but I extend a special welcome to people in Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz counties.

Monterey Bay Mastodon

An instance for the Monterey Bay area -- Santa Cruz, San Benito, and Monterey counties. Let's talk about this amazing place where we live and share the beauty of the Central Coast with the world!

@thepoliticalcat I’m at both. Trying to keep the worlds a bit more separate now. You would have gotten nothing but genealogy, history, antiques, photography, et cetera over on my other instance handle. I’m still trying to adjust to posting more here. (Pssst…. I’m also on .ie to focus on my Irish stuff 😂🙃… follow me wherever you wish 🙂)
