Well, I've gone and done it: I've launched an instance.

mastodon.social is a great instance to land while you figure out how things work and where you really belong. Over the past few weeks, I've concluded that I want to belong to a place where the Local feed truly is local; where I can go to see what my neighbors are thinking and doing. The discussion doesn't have to be exclusively about where we live, but having a sense of place in common feels important to me.

I created https://MontereyBay.social to be a place for folks in the Monterey Bay area to call home on the Fediverse. If the idea of a "local Local" feed resonates with you and you don't mind some bumps while I figure out how to be an admin, take a look at the server rules and sign up for an account. Anyone can join, but I extend a special welcome to people in Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz counties.

@paul That's rad, my dude. One of the reasons I joined sfba.social was for the community feed to be more local...I think a locally focused community feed is neat - and far superior to Nextdoor lololol :-) So kudos on pursuing something for your area!
