Recently discovered that Nathaniel Walton of Griswold, CT is my 7x great-grandfather on my paternal line. He was found in a long forgotten Walton family cemetery that was excavated in the early 1990s after some young boys playing in a sand and gravel pit unearthed 2 skulls. 29 bodies found in total, but 3 of them were not related to these Waltons. One of those 3 was this fella. History can be rather wild, folks.
Death is a debt
To nature due
Which I have paid
And so must you
Headstone of Joel Gay (1746 - 1821) in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Jamesville, NY.
It appears that he's likely my 6x great-grandfather, but I'm still digging. Nothing like your ancestors speaking to you from the grave with little reminders as you trace your dead. 😅
What's your "word" to focus on for 2024?
Mine is "Preservation". Both in terms of self-preservation (mental and physical health) and in terms of historical preservation. I plan start a handwritten recipe box with contributions from living family members, scan my grandparents' WWII letters and photos, create family journals to gift my young nephew, and clean headstones (D2). I also plan to do all that I can with my local #DAR chapter for many additional ways.
Let's make 2024 a great one!
My great grandmother Elizabeth Ann Coe wife of Charles Joslin Call in her garden at Prospect Farm, Stafford, Genesee County, New York. She is holding her granddaughter Eileen Evelyn Jones in her arms. Her grandson Alden Malvern Jones is standing by her side. Photograph was most likely taken in August 1919
More family photos from the summer of 1919 are on my blog at https://pattyhankins.blogspot.com/2023/01/family-photos-summer-1919-pages-165-168.html
