I'm a big #IsabelleHuppert fan, whose great-grandmother was one of 4 sisters that founded French fashion house Callot Soeurs. Her 2024 Met Gala gown (Balenciaga) was a reinterpretation of a Callot Soeurs' couture wedding gown that was on display at The Met at that time. I dig #FamilyHistory tributes like this.
Alrighty, #geneadons, I've taken the next 2 days off for a staycation to virtually attend RootsTech again this year in real-time. What sessions are you most looking forward to attending? If you're hosting a session, feel free to give it a pitch, too! Filling out my schedule.

Recently discovered that Nathaniel Walton of Griswold, CT is my 7x great-grandfather on my paternal line. He was found in a long forgotten Walton family cemetery that was excavated in the early 1990s after some young boys playing in a sand and gravel pit unearthed 2 skulls. 29 bodies found in total, but 3 of them were not related to these Waltons. One of those 3 was this fella. History can be rather wild, folks.

New England 'Vampire' Was Likely a Farmer Named John

In 1990, archaeologists discovered a corpse that had been disturbed during the Great New England Vampire Panic

@bethroots Indeed, it is a very tragic story. Not an ideal end by any means. Thanks to tracing family history though, I was able to confirm that both of his sons went on to have children and his bloodline still continues on today. Those before us may be dead, but we won't let them be forgotten. ❤️

1855 NY Census lists 4x great-grandfather's occupation as "loafer". Hoping it was just an unfamiliar job title, but no. Add this to a steady stream of newspaper clippings of his drunkenness and his time at Auburn Prison for burglary. At least the bad eggs leave a solid paper trail, eh? #genealogy #Geneadons #familyhistory

Death is a debt
To nature due
Which I have paid
And so must you

Headstone of Joel Gay (1746 - 1821) in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Jamesville, NY.
It appears that he's likely my 6x great-grandfather, but I'm still digging. Nothing like your ancestors speaking to you from the grave with little reminders as you trace your dead. 😅

What's your "word" to focus on for 2024?

Mine is "Preservation". Both in terms of self-preservation (mental and physical health) and in terms of historical preservation. I plan start a handwritten recipe box with contributions from living family members, scan my grandparents' WWII letters and photos, create family journals to gift my young nephew, and clean headstones (D2). I also plan to do all that I can with my local #DAR chapter for many additional ways.

Let's make 2024 a great one!

For those of you not familiar with WayBack Machine at https://web.archive.org/ I highly reccommend. In the past I've found docs and books. I recently was contacted by another researcher about a topic that I had written about but "lost" the post in a website move. Today I was able to find the old post on the Wayback machine and repost the article on my website! #genealogy #researchtips #Burnham #Hartford #Windsor https://www.mygenealogyresearch.net/the-confusing-origins-of-thomas-burnham/

My great grandmother Elizabeth Ann Coe wife of Charles Joslin Call in her garden at Prospect Farm, Stafford, Genesee County, New York. She is holding her granddaughter Eileen Evelyn Jones in her arms. Her grandson Alden Malvern Jones is standing by her side. Photograph was most likely taken in August 1919

More family photos from the summer of 1919 are on my blog at https://pattyhankins.blogspot.com/2023/01/family-photos-summer-1919-pages-165-168.html

I'm very lucky to have several of my grandmother Evelyn Clara Call's (1895-1962) photo albums. And perhaps even luckier that she labeled m...
