I'm a big #IsabelleHuppert fan, whose great-grandmother was one of 4 sisters that founded French fashion house Callot Soeurs. Her 2024 Met Gala gown (Balenciaga) was a reinterpretation of a Callot Soeurs' couture wedding gown that was on display at The Met at that time. I dig #FamilyHistory tributes like this.
My people don't seem to have very much luck with trains. #Geneadons #genealogy #FamilyHistory #TrainAccident
1855 NY Census lists 4x great-grandfather's occupation as "loafer". Hoping it was just an unfamiliar job title, but no. Add this to a steady stream of newspaper clippings of his drunkenness and his time at Auburn Prison for burglary. At least the bad eggs leave a solid paper trail, eh? #genealogy #Geneadons #familyhistory
Support your local #Libraries! Recently found that a nearby library has the distinction of being the oldest public library still in its original building in the United States. Chartered in 1853, a gift from Gerrit Smith, who stipulated "privileges and benefits of the library shall be always as acceptable to the one sex as the other, and that no person on account of their race, complexion or condition, shall be shut out of the privileges and benefits, or in any degree curtailed of them".
Finally joined the local historical society that my father had been a longtime member of yesterday! My folks have both long since passed on, but I'd like to think that they'd be very proud. While there, I couldn't resist looking through their high school yearbooks. #familyhistory #genealogy #geneadons

I am clearly having too much fun with the #MyHeritage AI Time Machine.
Found this gem on my lunch break today in the FamilySearch Digital Library. It's the oldest photo of my paternal grandfather that I've discovered so far. #FamilyHistory #Genealogy #Geneadons
In 1944, 982 refugees from the #Holocaust were brought from Europe to Fort Ontario (Oswego, New York). Unfortunately, these were the ONLY refugees from
World War II who were allowed into the United States under President Roosevelt. All their physical needs were met, but they lacked true freedom. In an effort to petition authorities to allow them to stay in the US, they wrote an operetta that told their story. My husband and I are attending the 75th anniversary performance tonight. #LocalHistory
