also called the Lawyers Wig, this mushroom slowly dissolves into ink, a process known as deliquescing. it’s edible when young, but turns bitter and becomes liquid soon after harvesting. traditionally thought to cause symptoms of alcohol poisoning or a severe hangover when consumed with alcohol, but recent evidence suggests while other Coprinus species like the Inky cap have the chemical responsible, he Shaggy Mane does not!

a household favourite (at least at my place) - The Sorcerer (Aedia leucomelas)!

also known as the sweet potato leaf worm, or the eastern alchymist, these lil critters eat convolvulus and ipomoea species. i find them often on my sweet potato and it’s always a delight! i don’t know why they’re called the sourcerer, but there’s a lot of fun in spotting one of these caterpillars and announcing that The Sorcerer has graced us with their presence :3

trilobite beetles!! i’m fascinated by all of the Platerodrilus beetles but P.paradoxus takes the cake in terms of style. the females keep their larval form, and reach up to 80mm in size while the males are tiny, around 8mm. and i love them :)

a lil #introduction post as i’m brand new to mastodon but incredibly intrigued by what i’ve seen while exploring so far :)

i’m danny (they/them), a #nonbinary artist and #insect enthusiast who draws a lot of #nature, especially bugs and mushrooms!! i also take a lot of #photography of nature, and bother people for the identification (i’m a life long learner and knowledge is tasty)!

i’m also working on a #graphicnovel (very early stages) that has a lot to do with the #environment, connecting with community and nature and what it means to belong to a place (also being #queer naturally) :3

some of my other interests include, #gardening, #solarpunk, #sustainability, #crochet, #reading, and #diy!!
