If you wonder what splice isoforms exist for your gene(s) of interest, or if you are interested in exploring tissue/cancer-specific splicing, we have a new tool for that.

MAJIQlopedia: an encyclopedia of RNA splicing variations in human tissues and cancer

Abstract. Quantification of RNA splicing variations based on RNA-Sequencing can reveal tissue- and disease-specific splicing patterns. To study such splicing va

@carldeboer Thanks, Carl!

Nouveau labo!
Je cherche des étudiant(e)s aux cycles supérieurs voulant travailler dans le domaine de l'épissage de l'ARN en #cancer et #immunologie.

New lab!
I'm looking for grad students interested in #RNAsplicing in #cancer and #immunology

Climate Scientists Leave Twitter For Mastodon

So, it is possible for a group to make the collective decision to leave Twitter. Scientists "suffering insults and mass-spam are abandoning Twitter," and setting up shop on Mastodon.

"Glaciologist @Ruth_Mottram had more than 10,000 followers on Twitter but left in February and joined an alternative scientists' forum powered by Mastodon."

Climate scientists flee Twitter as hostility surges

Scientists suffering insults and mass-spam are abandoning Twitter for alternative social networks as hostile climate-change denialism surges on the platform following Elon Musk's takeover.

City of #Ljubljana in #Slovenia, population 280,000, kicked cars out in 2007.

Since then, car use has dropped by 32%, black carbon emissions are down 70%, noise pollution is down by 6 decibels.
Unfortunately, going car-free has made the center a living hell, as this video shows:

This week, Science published a stunningly irresponsible news story entitled "Fake scientific papers are alarmingly common" and claiming that upward of 30% of the scientific literature is fake.

https://www.science.org/content/article/fake-scientific-papers-are-alarmingly-common

Below, the first two paragraphs of the story.

Headline and intro notwithstanding, the story itself later notes that the detector doesn't actually work and flags nearly half of real papers as fake. Does the reporter just not understand that?

Fake scientific papers are alarmingly common

But new tools show promise in tackling growing symptom of academia’s “publish or perish” culture

Wow!
looks like super awesome method from Long Cai lab

"High-resolution spatial multi-omics reveals cell-type specific nuclear compartments"

They did mRNA #seqFISH+ (1200 genes, 17K introns), DNA seqFISH+ (100K loci) and #immunofluorescence (up to 65 antibodies) all in the same experiment!
200+ rounds of #imaging! That's incredible.

I support the early career scientists in Canada who are walking out today to ask for their first pay raise in 20 years.

The federal government's track record in science has been on of neglect, and it's time to change that.
