Hi Mastodonians, MastoDons, & MastoDoñas!

I am an oncologist and scientist at the NCI developing #radiopharmaceuticals in the lab to help image and treat cancer.

My research sits at the interface of #oncology #chemistry #radiochemistry #DrugDevelopment #ClinicalTrials #nucmed #radonc.

Beyond the professional, I enjoy #audiobooks, #fitness, #coffee, and occasional #beer #homebrewing.

Looking to connect with and learn from diverse thinkers in oncology, medicine, and beyond.

Saw this somewhere (can't find OP, sorry) and really like the metaphor of surfers v divers in science.

We tend to train and value divers (people who go deep in a clearly defined area) and our institutions (including systems of eval) are set up to accommodate them. If you're a surfer (working broadly and across areas, as I am) there are many hurdles including people just thinking you're nuts and/or have no chance at success or you're trying to "do too much".

In academia, we need two types of researchers: divers and surfers — University Affairs

Once the value of “interdisciplinary” is truly accepted, academia will significantly benefit.

People, please start using CamelCase (aka PascalCase) to break apart words in #HashTags.

It makes it easier to read and more #accessible. Single words are OK to keep lowercase, unless they are proper nouns 😉
It makes it easier to review if you're a #MastoAdmin.

@jamesbritt also shared you can #Use_The_Underbar!

@blindscribe says: https://www.accessible-social.com/copy-and-formatting/hashtags

Please #boost this for visibility and to help improve the lives of many people.

last boost (#LB?): LOVED Carolyn @bertozzi's answer when asked for whether her winning the Nobel Prize provides "an enhanced platform" to address gender issues in STEM (at time 22:00): "It's probably a question that's better posed to the men around the table...there are so many more of them and they are in a position to make change that's 9 times greater than my own position." 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

We're excited to read the latest review from Joshua Weiss, Rich White and collaborators on leveraging the zebrafish to understand the tumor microenvironment: https://elifesciences.org/articles/69703

It will be important over the next few years to see how much functional overlap there is between fish and human tumor-immune interactions. Especially as more and more zebrafish genetically engineered cancer models are developed, including those for which no mouse models currently exist.

Shifting the focus of zebrafish toward a model of the tumor microenvironment

Zebrafish provide unique resources for the study of the tumor microenvironment.

Intro post for this platform: I am an Asst. Prof. of Genome Sciences at the Univ. of Washington 👋

My lab uses bioinfo, mol bio, and advanced microscopy to develop new tech and study spatial patterns of chromosome organization and gene expression at the single-cell level.

This also seems like a good place to mention that @dschweppe and I have an open ad for a postdoc interested in chromatin proteomics 👇

Hello, world! Yes, it’s me—if you need me I’ll be over here making metal bugs with unnecessary amounts of detail 🔬🪲❤️
It's now official - females are not just small versions of males. (this is important to #SABV efforts bc there are arguments that the main differences between m/f can be attributed to body weight) https://t.co/q9bnh45NIe
Sex differences in allometry for phenotypic traits in mice indicate that females are not scaled males

Sex differences in the lifetime risk and expression of disease are well-known. Preclinical research targeted at improving treatment, increasing health span, and reducing the financial burden of health care, has mostly been conducted on male animals and ...

Hello! This is Maitreya Dunham's lab account. Getting everything set up over here, hopefully.
