Went to REI today with my son to get him new boots, so he could try on and fit them. REI staff were helpful and friendly, but NOT knowledgeable. Interesting change from probably 15 years ago.

15 years ago:
"what kind of hiking are you going to do? How much load are you carrying"
"what's your normal shoe size? You should try a half size bigger"
"I can show you some lacing patterns to help that"
"You might try a wide or narrow also"

Today:
"What shoe are you looking for? Size? I'll go look out in back"

(I ended up helping my son fit the new boots myself 🤷 )
