Another NaNoWriMo in the books. The first three weeks were fun, but I've been sick all week, so it's been a total slog. I wrote 50k of short stories again, and ended up with three longer stories and lots of stories around 1600 words. Now my goal is to keep the habit going! I'm committing to write 250 words a day or spend 15 minutes editing my own work. The real goal is to prioritize my own craft each day. As an editor, I struggle to make time for my own work.

I'm late to the appreciation party, but everyone who works with fiction writers should read Craft in the Real World by Matthew Salesses. There are so many big and important ideas in this book. It challenges our ideas of craft and illuminates how they're tied to culture and power. As an editor who works with magical realism and genre-bending fiction, digesting these ideas will help me better support writers.
