Now I’m conflicted ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I can’t overstate how relieved I am with the election results in France.
It’s still very worrying, the far right is growing in terms of influence, but at least it’s still widely considered as the most dangerous option by everyone else, and it’s still being effectively blocked.

We won’t get an efficient government with how the parliament is split, but at least it won’t be run by the far right. Congrats to all the people who voted to avoid running the country into a totalitarian wall!

#UTM Installed on the MacStudio to run old versions of windows so I can keep using software/games I still use and enjoy. #Win7, #XP, and #W2K are being emulated with #Win95, #Win98, and #OS2Warp next to be installed.

Over at the WOzFest Centre imaging a folder of floppies. Not going well at all. I suspect the being stored in plastic binder sleeves is not good.
The Famous Computer Cafe digitization project was fully funded after less than 24 hours. Wow, thank you! We've started digitizing! You can still throw a couple of dollars (or more 🙂) at the gofundme to get updates as the work progresses and links to the shows as they're posted to Internet Archive. https://gofund.me/87eb1a5b

"Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

The computer, however, will stop you from recording DRM'd content.

Find it fascinating that when faced with drawing safety and security boundaries, the primary beneficiary is not the owner of the device, or the person using it, but random corporations who control the intellectual property rights.

The system doesn't work for you.

#WOzFest 34 is this Saturday – I had been hoping to have played with my #FujiNet Apple II by now, but all I’ve been able to do is grab a europlus, a //e, a monitor, cables, and the various cards for testing (Disk ][, 5.25” Interface Card, LIRON, etc.).

But! My softSP card arrived from https://ct6502.org yesterday, which should allow all FujiNet Apple II features to work on my non-SmartPort machines, so now I have everything I need for playing!

Join us! PM for GMeet link.

Red Carbonite is real!!
Feels good to be making a start of sorts, with some basics under my belt, I’ll start writing up the text of my #GlobalTalk guide so I can figure out which other styles I’ll have to spec up, which screenshots to take, etc.

@Jongleur Those binders are terrible. They just leave an oily mess on everything. Seemed like a good idea at the time. You're at least lucky the disks were in sleeves inside the binder!
@yesterbits one floppy had seized in its carrier. There was one disk with no sleeve and it scanned 100% first go. Now to upload to archive.org. Interesting little snapshot of the 80s
@yesterbits …and the fumes given off by the folder overpowers that of the isopropyl alcohol used to clean the floppies.
@Jongleur The sleeves may be PVC, which slowly outgasses chlorine and plasticizers. The chlorine can harm many products. Many audiophiles learned this the hard way when PVC storage sleeves they intended to protect their records instead damaged them.
Other plastics may outgas plasticizers, which aren't good for you, but aren't as much of a problem for archiving as chlorine.
@Jongleur Wow. Great (if tedious) work. BTW, what are the things under your Mac Studio?
