oh HELL yeah. the "DosBox Pure" core for retroarch is able to build a virtual hard disk to install Windows 98 and play CD-ROM games. It handles "save files" by tracking changes to the C drive. I got Artrageous running, aka The Amazing Digital Art Museum :p

Самое непонятое — как с этим говном жить?
Вот я попытался поставить стэки TCP/IP и NetBIOS. Она говорит «давай установочный сидюк». Сидюк вот он, на десктопе лежит, смонтирован. Но как его в эмулятор пихать — хз, там это не предусмотрено, хоть застрелись. Прерываю установку, она уже успела прописать сетевые драйвера в system.ini, долбоёбина (не поставив их). Система крашится при загрузке. Залезть и закомментировать не могу. DOS-овский диск смонтировать не могу, хотя монтировщик, вроде бы, вот он лежит. Но выдаёт ошибку.
И вообще сидюк с Win98 можно сунуть только один раз — при установке самого эмулятора. Дальше — сосо. Хотя в винде некий «диск F:» в виде 💿 присутствует.
Штатным установщиком #SoftWindows я переустановить не могу. Мне надо полностью удалить все файлы, которые она понаставила, плюс влезть в System:Preferences и удалить её настройки оттуда, начисто. И только тогда…

Ну кто так строит! Я расстроен. Снова
Пойду спать, завтра буду думать

Но, всё-таки, #windows98 в миллион раз приятнее, чем #win95

I just received this version of Windows 98. Yes, Windows 98, not Windows 98 Second Edition. The original! I used this CD-ROM to update my 86Box VM from Windows 95 and everything worked right out of the box without any issues with drivers or within its device manager. It even managed pretty high-res resolutions and full 24-bit color. 😜

some people have joked about "oops, they ran sudo rm -rf too hastily" and I feel compelled to point out that, actually, on a windows 98 machine, a more likely command would be robocopy /mir .

Hier noch ein sehr spezielles Sammlerstück aus dem Jahre 2000. Eine kleine, zerlegbare Mini CD mit der Testversion von WinZip 8.0. Kompatibel mit Windows 95/98/NT, sowie Windows 2000/XP. Solch ein Datenträger ist heutzutage wohl extrem selten.
