I can’t overstate how relieved I am with the election results in France.
It’s still very worrying, the far right is growing in terms of influence, but at least it’s still widely considered as the most dangerous option by everyone else, and it’s still being effectively blocked.

We won’t get an efficient government with how the parliament is split, but at least it won’t be run by the far right. Congrats to all the people who voted to avoid running the country into a totalitarian wall!

@thelinuxEXP Thankfully, in this case, Le Pen was not mightier than democracy
@techcelt Yeah, hopefully this far right bubble will have burst in a few years!

@thelinuxEXP They’re in put-up-or-shut-up territory for a while at least.

@techcelt

@techcelt @thelinuxEXP Macron was mightier than democracy though
@thelinuxEXP
First the good results in UK, now in France.. That does really give me some hope for the elections in Germany next year 💚
@oliver If Germany escapes the far right, there’s still hope for the EU, and for democracy in Europe! I hope for the best too!

@thelinuxEXP @oliver Far-right, populist 'A'fD achieved 15.9%, far-left, populist BSW 6.2% in the #EU elections. So 'only' about 1/4 voted populists (including smaller parties). I'm carefully optimistic.

Hope that left and center can at least agree on _some_ stuff in #France tho. We need more solution oriented politics in the EU. Way too much 'us' vs. 'them' thinking rn.

@oliver @thelinuxEXP as far as I know Sara's party stopped rapid AfD growth.

Success of the right is always explained by failure of the left.

@cybertailor
There's definitely some truth in that last sentence. But as far as I'm aware, Wagenknecht's party is just as "pro-Putin" as AfD is.
They'd both cause problems, so we'll have to hope for the other left(ish) parties to get their shit together 🤷
@thelinuxEXP
@oliver @thelinuxEXP yeah, the bare minimum required from politicians is to solidarize with Russian political prisoners and voice support for protest movements. If they don't do that, then they're fucking cowards.
@thelinuxEXP I am very glad for French friends, In my country (Spain), the far right is also growing quite fast.
@PictoPulse356 It’s a worrying trend in Europe, yeah. Our situation isn’t great still, the far right still gained a lot of seats compared to their previous position, so we’re not out of the woods!
@thelinuxEXP yeah, this started long time ago with Jean Marie Le Pen, and seems that is not going to finish

@thelinuxEXP

Let’s face it. They are a minority, a very loud one, but a minority.
Just like the NSDAP was by the way. So beware…

@xs4me2 @thelinuxEXP Well 19% of people vote for them at first round , So RN will stay strong for a long time I'm afraid

@freechelmi @thelinuxEXP

Well, it’s the result that count.
They effectively had a punch on the nose…
Voter says NON!

@freechelmi @xs4me2 Yeah, they’re still rising a lot, and it’s still a worrying thing
@thelinuxEXP While I'm relieved that nazis lost, I'm worried about Ukraine as much as before.
@thelinuxEXP congrats, man! I mean it!
@thelinuxEXP I don't know much about the political situation in France but my country (India) experienced the most progressive laws and regulations during a coalition government. Efficient does not always mean good government no matter who is in power. I would rather have slow bureaucracy with inclusive laws.
@thelinuxEXP It's crazy that the so-called Macron gambit worked. I am very surprised. But we should expect that the right-wing radicals who have the support of the Russian Federation will come back with renewed vigour in the next elections. If they won now, people could blame them for everything and say how incompetent they are

@Distante @thelinuxEXP Macron’s gambit didn’t work at all.

If you read between the lines, he wanted people to experience what the far right would do during the 3 years remaining before the presidential elections if they had the majority. In his plan, people would hate the far-right gov thus they won’t think of voting for them at the next opportunity.

Now, I think what happened currently is in fact the worse. Why ? (1/2)

@stubbornphoenix @Distante Not sure that’s what he wanted. IMO, he thought the left had once again imploded; and his party would be the logical choice for everyone who doesn’t want the far right. This didn’t pay off!

@Distante @thelinuxEXP (2/2) Because the left (NFP) is going to be judged for every action or mistake they’ll do even if they don’t have the absolute majority. Far-right media are going to be pitiless, merciless and produce even more fake news.

People will still think that the far-right is a potential viable choice.

The next presidential election will be very hard for all the parties except the far-right.
Macron’s gambit helped the far-right more than the others

@stubbornphoenix @Distante Yeah, that’s definitely what I’m afraid of as well
@thelinuxEXP I'm not French, but the extreme right is always a bad option in any country, we've experienced the right in politics, we've experienced it for 8 years, so we know first-hand how bad it is, fortunately you didn't have to experience it, but the people needs a hub, a place to group and discuss or else, next time, the extreme right won't be at the last position, in tunisia, we used fb for this purpose so we're extremely active on that front
@thelinuxEXP it’s great to see people coming together to block the RN. Here in Ireland the electoral system kinda does that automatically, it distributes the votes from the losing candidates according to people’s second, third,… preferences.
@thelinuxEXP There's only one thing to do. Tax financial profits and wealth. All the rest is fluff and distraction. Just like everywhere else. A much harder push will likely be needed. It's not over.

@thelinuxEXP Now is the time to censor the voices that promote the far right.

As they rely on lies, it should be possible to do so legally.

@thelinuxEXP Congrats on successful defence of democracy!
@thelinuxEXP As a foreigner living in France, watching the news recently was kind of concerning.
@thelinuxEXP I fear that France has little appetite or experience with coalition governments, let's hope they can manage in favor of the people. And right-wingers will always stoke the fires of fear from immigrants and crime, it is their go-to scam.
@thelinuxEXP I share your relief. Things are obviously broken in Europe but the far right is certainly not the solution. Cheers from Hungary

If you consider these worthy electors as unable to look after their own interests themselves, how is it that they know how to choose for themselves the shepherds who must guide them? And how will they be able to solve this problem of social alchemy, of producing the election of a genius from the votes of a mass of fools? -- Errico Malatesta #anarchism #quote #bot

@thelinuxEXP
A lot of people world wide felt relief. Now I'm really scared about the election in my country (US) in November.
