Yet another birdsite refugee (although I was hardly active on it). Mainly plan to boost, rather than write original content (writing is scary!) but we'll see.

I'm also a #filker (listener, singer, archivist, very occasional writer of #filk), although under a different name.

If anyone's looking for something to work on for project gutenberg, I prepared all the scans for "The Coasts of Illusion" by Clark B. Firestone and it's in stage one proofreading now! https://www.pgdp.net/c/project.php?id=projectID65c051b0679a9

it's a strange and discursive little collection of premodern "travel tales" and one of the main sources for Avram Davidson's delightful "Adventures in Unhistory". it also has some utterly gorgeous illustrations scattered throughout. anyway have a ball

ProMED, an early warning system on disease outbreaks, appears near collapse

The early warning disease network that alerted the world to the original SARS outbreak and the start of the Covid-19 pandemic appears to be in peril. A

In the absence of #Orchids, I instead took some pictures of moss for #Mosstodon. I really liked these two with tiny #fungi fruiting bodies growing through them.
A friend attending #ICML just sent me a photo of this front runner for best poster award.

@ifixcoinops I did this early on! Once I got to work for the, I shit you not, Bread Research Institute. I was hired to do some data entry, they saw I knew something about computers so they got me to do some desktop publishing stuff and stick around longer. Bonus money, but that wasn't the best bit.

Staying longer meant I was there on the second Friday. Every second Friday was a Baking Day so I went to my second job (as a waiter) eating a whole loaf of still-warm freshly-baked Research Bread.
