If anyone's looking for something to work on for project gutenberg, I prepared all the scans for "The Coasts of Illusion" by Clark B. Firestone and it's in stage one proofreading now! https://www.pgdp.net/c/project.php?id=projectID65c051b0679a9

it's a strange and discursive little collection of premodern "travel tales" and one of the main sources for Avram Davidson's delightful "Adventures in Unhistory". it also has some utterly gorgeous illustrations scattered throughout. anyway have a ball

Almost every line of this book could be the epigraph for an excellent novel
@hannah one of my favorite 19th-century urban legends that also inspired one of my favorite paintings that feels impossible to capture with a photograph (it's 8 feet across and has incredible dynamic range) https://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O82563/the-upas-or-poison-tree-oil-painting-danby-francis-ara/
