White Ribbon Day 25th November 2025.

Letting sexism slide puts women and girls at risk. Sexist jokes, catcalling, staring, and comments might seem harmless, but they are serious because they can lead to violence and abuse.

This White Ribbon Day, we want more men to use their voices and speak up to create a world where everyone is safe, equal and respected.

Every time we ignore something that doesn’t feel right, we miss a chance to set a better example.

@Broadfork definitely odd. But as you say, let's you get on with jobs. The council has turned off the water here too.

About a couple of months ago now, we rescued a young scrawny hedgehog in our garden that was too small to survive the winter (it was only 270g). Probably from a late litter at the tail end of the breeding season.

We got it to the local emergency hogmother lady who set about feeding it up to give it a chance. Today she's been in touch to tell us that Rustle (J insists on naming all the animals we come into contact with) is now a healthy 900g.

We agreed to let her be rewilded at a hedgehog foster parent rather than be returned here, only because she'd be competing with a lot of other hogs in our garden, and dealing with Gwynnik (dog), who is not necessarily a physical threat but will probably instil regular utter panic because of her nose to nose inquisitiveness and loud excited yapping.

Sad that we're not seeing her here again, but happy that we helped.

A killing frost seems like a distant event, so rather than take the chance of the dahlias rotting in the ground I dug them up. First job was to label and take a picture so I can divide my favourites come spring. I've still got roses budding up, salvias in flower, and weeds growing. Also, the garden Choysia is in full bloom, flowers on the crab apple tree, and primroses are flowering.

Once more with the #bumblebee v #honeybee theme:

Bumblebees employ a neat trick called ‘buzz pollination’ to dislodge hard to access pollen in certain flowers.
Honey bees don’t got this move in their repertoire!

@Broadfork yes, no need for any chemicals. Looking forward to hearing your results.
@Broadfork Those flowers will be great for the pollinators. I had to dig out some fruit bushes recently from a bed that was originally very heavy clay. The only addition was a layer of leaves in the autumn and grass clippings during the summer. The resulting soil is about as close to a loam that I've ever had. I was so pleased I made a video😁 #SoilNerd
