Retired NHS worker. Gardener and allotmenteer, no peat, pesticides or herbicides. Into soil biodiversity. #climate #biodiversity #SocialJustice. "There is also love in the world"

Day 3 making nettle FPJ. There’s enough liquid to keep the nettle material submerged without a weight on top. The weighted jars have been removed and 2 jars’ contents have been combined together.

In a couple of days I’ll slowly drip sieve the liquid through the nettle material.

I will then have a jar of nettle FPJ.

I’ll add apple cider vinegar to the left over nettle material to make a jar of nettle FPJ vinegar. #GrowYourOwn #Gardening #Allotment #ClimateAction #SolarPunk

New blog post: a recap covering what I've been up to at the #allotment garden this month

https://notes.laurenheywood.com/allotment-march-2026/

Final day of initial build at Belmont Rec: More habitat creation, water level topped up with another bowser delivery, more work on the pond edges. We'll return in a few weeks to plant out.

I was to learn that she was Syrian, and that her boys and husband had died during the wars there. We held hands and wept . She had fled with her two remaining daughters to Scotland. How do you cope with such losses? I could rant about the evil men who cause such pain, but I will,in time forget them, To my dying breath, I will remember the dignity and warmth of this woman and thank everyone who fights for the cause of asylum seekers in this country.
I'm visiting family in Scotland. On the train I sat next to a lovely lady and we struck up a conversation about why we were travelling. She had been visiting one of her daughters and grandsons in London. She proudly showed me some photos of them, a beautiful young woman, a pharmacist, and a fine lad of around 11. Then she showed me photo of her husband, her 27 year old and her 10 year old boy. I asked if they would be meeting her. Her eyes filled up with tears. 2/

An unusual find of an Eyed Ladybird in #Bath #Somerset #UK today. I've not previously found this species in Bath. It's associated with pine trees, but I found it quite some distance from any pines.
