BenFeels like there's a lot of binary puritanical stuff online sometimes. 'If you're not personally working 24/7 to combat climate change you are a terrible person' etc. We're all very tired. Frankly I think we're doing a great job, considering. I just think it's OK to be a bit shitty sometimes. You can just be a bit shitty sometimes. If anyone says anything, just tell them I said it's OK. The Ben commandments.

@NNN @Andres4NY Unfortunately, until we have a full value chain that is not oil dependent, destroying oil from the Middle East will immediately drop the world into chaos.
Most natural gas is in some way connected to oil (some not, but that is the minimum). No gas --> no steel, no aluminium --> no bikes or cars.
No gas / no oil --> no plastics --> no modern products (batteries, phones, kitchenware, etc.).

Almost all our fertiliser and plastics come from refineries, either directly or indirectly, so blowing them up can end up in a lot of people going hungry, and a lot of modern products becoming very expensive very quickly.
Eugen RochkoI have the impression that primarily anglophone people don't read as much translated literature, because so much good literature already exists in their language, so this issue may not be as familiar within that demographic. As someone who did not grow up anglophone, I can tell you there is a world of difference between a good and a bad translation even when done by humans. Machine translations are not even on the scale.

From a legal standpoint, the US has illegally killed the leader of Iran in an illegal war which our leaders are not even criticizing. They are just accepting that the US takes out a leader they do not like, thereby destabilizing a nation of 93 million people.
International law does not allow this, but if we do not uphold international law, what boundaries do we have left to limit dictators like Putin?

@QasimRashid Unfortunately I do not see option 4 as viable, even if Trump resigns, is impeached or dies. The fundamental problem is the American political system.
No country or institution can trust America to honour any agreement long term. Even if a new Democratic president comes in and start negotiating in good faith, everything can be off the table in 4 years.
There is a joke about a man that did everything for his community, yet was always known for f** one sheep. America is now there.
