I wrote a blog post! It's a letter to my past self, from about a year ago when I was a bit manic.

If you want me to write similar things to you, you can hire me as a "life coach". I won't know your future though 😉

Letter to my past self - last year, (hypo?)manic — aurin

This Danish study is quite ground-breaking. It uses Danish public health data to count the intersex population in Denmark, and then looks at the related incidence of mental health issues and neurodiversity.

1. Incidence of intersex conditions is at 2.5%, using broad inclusion criteria. For example, mild conditions like unilateral cryptorchidism are included. Hyperandrogenic conditions like PCOS are not included in the study.

2. There is a significant increase in neurodivergence in the intersex population, even in the "mild" conditions that are often excluded from intersex studies.

3. Mental health conditions like psychosis correlate to intersex conditions.

Regarding (1), the number of intersex people increase every decade. The correlation of significant neurological effects to even "mild" conditions that fail medical gatekeeping shows that the medical gatekeeping is unjustified, and driven by cosmetic and binary concerns.

Re (2), the correlation of intersex and autism is interesting for perisex trans people. While transphobes claim that vulnerable autistic people are pressured into being trans, they can hardly make the same argument that some autistic kids had peer pressure to be born with physical differences.

Re (3), no idea why mental health issues correlate to intersex, but of course being intersex can result in social isolation, gaslighting, and body image issues. Also some mental health issues like psychosis should probably be reframed as neurodiversity and as iatrogenic trauma.

Opinion | Trump Is Turning America Into a Psychotic State

What are the implications if the government of the world’s most powerful country is chaotic in its thinking and not reliably in touch with reality?

~alaska's story~ she's one of my most important plushies. bought her around 2013 when i has psychosis cuz she looked how i felt, it was of the beginning of collecting plushies and i still love her to bits she helped me out countless times. fun fact: i payed about 12 bucks for her and now she's worth around 60 or more bucks but of course i would never sell her #psychosis #schizophrenia #monster #nici #plushies #storytime

#psychosis can result from the spiral of upbeat endorsement #AI showers on users. One psychiatrist was deeply sceptical of this claim but a dig into the research findings confirmed.

And this is a matter on top of the dangerous atrophying of cognitive function from AI offloading.

Clinicians worried that methylphenidate might raise psychosis risk in ADHD can take note: this large Finnish cohort found no such link — and in children diagnosed under 13, sustained treatment was associated with reduced risk.

Methylphenidate Treatment and Risk of Psychotic Disorder

This cohort study of a Finnish national multiyear birth cohort uses instrumental variable analysis to investigate whether methylphenidate alters the long-term risk of psychotic disorder in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
