Iran's regime faces an existential choice: continue proxy attacks on US bases or escalate to direct strikes that risk a US - Iran ground war. Their restraint so far suggests they're still open to negotiation with the US. There is still time but the window is closing.
Your elected officials need to hear from you. Urge your Members of Congress to reclaim their constitutional authority by supporting the war powers resolutions that would prohibit Trump from dragging us further into a disastrous war with Iran. https://act.indivisible.org/sign/no-iran-war-senate?source=mastodon&medium=directpost
Tell Your Senators: No War With Iran

Trump has bombed Iran. Against the will of the American people, without a vote from Congress, and without any plan to protect American lives or deescalate the crisis, Trump unilaterally launched a military strike that could ignite a full-scale regional war. But we have the power to stop this. The Constitution is clear: Only Congress can declare war. That’s not a technicality – it’s a safeguard meant to keep exactly this kind of unilateral warmongering in check. Senator Tim Kaine has introduced a War Powers Resolution to rein in Trump’s illegal military action and block further escalation. A strong vote in the Senate sends a crystal-clear message: we will not be dragged into war. Demand your Senator oppose war with Iran, and support the Kaine War Powers Resolution. The email to your senators:

Today in Jesus fucking Christ I hope your house burns to the ground:

The housed residents around this encampment apparently came up with a suggestion to CUT DOWN ALL THE TREES in this park so that the unhoused people had no shade and would have to leave.

Up early doing #CommunityDefence which doesn't involve arson.

Edited because voice-text and too tired to proofread. Expect some very specific ranting later today.

Yep!
Of all my bee facts this is possibly my favourite - there are even bumblebees that don’t go with the crowd, the rules, the flow, which results in benefits for plants and the planet.
Here’s to all the disrupters for good! The awkward ones. The non-conformists. The brave!

Early by the way…just sayin’.

A couple more waterfalls and general forestry goodness in the Minnamurra Rainforest

Now that's what I call a fantastic weekend. I can't feel my arse anymore after all that cycling in steep hilly country, but I don't really need it until tomorrow anyway.

@lexicaleigh
My mother told me, when she was a child in NAZI Germany. People would suddenly be gone. No one would talk about it, they were too scared. Like Stalinist Russia, school children were taught to report their parents, if they said anything about the regime!
@lexicaleigh This is literally my nightmare
@lexicaleigh Arrested Neighbours at home at five o'clock in the morning

@lexicaleigh Oh you naive Americans.

You don't have to post something negative about the regime.

Your neighbours just have to report that you have told a Trump joke.

Perhaps they just want your bigger home.

Perhaps they are just irritated at you because you pissed them off 25 years ago at a BBQ party.

@lexicaleigh Please note, in 10 years, when potentially somebody will come around, the neighbour will strictly remember that he didn't know what happened to you, and strictly not remember who called the tip line. And as you probably will not be there (either dead, or safely in your new home country), nobody will ask awkward questions about
a) the nice classic Mustang
b) why he moved a couple of days after your disappearance
c) why he has accidentally the same cool luxury gadgets that you had.

Please tick the options that apply.

The Germans are a bit less naive, there are already satiric cartoons (about the raise of #noafd) circling, showing neighbours discussing over the fence how they are preparing to be good party followers, know nothing, see nothing, profit as much as possible, and obviously, be 100% innocent afterwards.

But hey, it will be dark times, but if you are lucky, you will be dead early on. Or you'll survive. Always challenging to tell what the lucky option is here.

Also note, considering that a sizeable minority is completely happy with these atrocities, there will be no real accounting for it. The very best you can hope is, the Romanian option, aka, a People's court for the big wigs, a quick bullet, but all the "small enforcers"?

They'll get to keep their medals. I know I have the advantage of reading German fluently, and my wife (not a historian, but adjacent as prehistorian) literally told I should stop reading denazification tribunal files.

They are depressing. Going rate for “crimes against humanities” combined with other severe crimes at the end of the 1940s in Germany? 6–12 months suspended. And most likely some comments like “he did it because of his upstanding character because he was such an upstanding civil servant, honourably”.

But hey, you cannot lock up a sizeable portion of the population, especially if you need them to run the administration of the young republic.

And if they still have to unlearn the reflex to raise their hand when somebody enters the room, 🤷

So yes, depending upon how the "regime" falls, there will be no accounting or little accounting for the crimes committed now.

(And before anyone says, it's only Nazi-Germany. Ever heard of a guy called Putin. Was a dissident in the old USSR. Oops, no, actually he was a privileged a$$hole who spent a sizeable chunk of his life in the GDR, one of the nicest places in the Eastern block.)

@lexicaleigh Yep. The more in the past it gets the sooner it gets here too.

@lexicaleigh

Doesn't even have to be recent... History says there will be purges

@lexicaleigh

Happening here in the UK too, as #PalestineAction are about to be classified as a terrorist group for spray painting a plane

Anyone objecting to the Starmer regime will soon be reclassified and disappeared
