ICYMI: In September 2024, The Carpentries submitted a proposal for 1.5 million USD to the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Pathways to Enable Open-Source Ecosystems (POSE) Program, and were extremely pleased to learn that the proposal was recommended for funding.

However, we have had to rescind our proposal because it was flagged for DEI content, namely, for “the retention of underrepresented students, which has a limitation or preference in outreach, recruitment, participation that is not aligned to NSF priorities.”

Since we are no longer in the running for this funding, we are actively seeking donors and a cohort of funders who align with our mission and core values and want to support our work.

Announcing Withdrawal of NSF Pathways to Enable Open-Source Ecosystems Proposal

In September 2024, The Carpentries submitted a proposal to the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Pathways to Enable Open-Source Ecosystems (POSE) Program. This project would position The Carpentries as a leading open source ecosystem and further solidify our independence as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organisation. Developing a proposal of this magnitude (1.5 million USD) involved a significant amount of preparation, from conceptualisation of the idea to navigating the complex submission process. It was the first time The Carpentries did it on our own, with our Associate Director, Erin Becker, leading as principal investigator.

It's about pretending to be in favor of merit when it's really about exploitation and consolidating money and power. Both have a complete inability to comprehend creativity, what it's for, and what makes it good. Both are unafraid of stealing from people that it does not recognize as human.

ИИ в текущей его форме не делает ничего полезного на самом деле, кроме засирания интернета слопом и ддоса сайтов-доноров контента.

Сейчас много проблем с тем, что по какой-то совершенно надуманной причине везде и всюду "произведениям", созданным ИИ на исходных данных под авторским правом вдруг разрешается это авторское право дропнуть, будто его и не было. Соотв. ИИ как-бы грабит авторов и не даёт им атрибуции.

Второе, это неэтичное использование ресурсов. ИИ в текущей его форме требует просто колоссального количества энергии. Хуже только вездесущая крипта.

Третье, это как я упомянул выше, ИИ требуются данные. Мноооого данных. Постоянно нужны свежие данные. Ненасытная хрень, жрущая энергию гигаваттами, пускающая видяхи в расход и ддосяшая сайты.
ИИ боты натурально выбивают с ноги дверь и выдирают твою обстановку с корнем. Я, например, стал жертвой такой атаки сразу четырёх ботов параллельно: Claude, Bing, Huawei и Alibaba. Все тупо вместо git clone с моего гит хостинга ломились в каждую веб страницу git diff, одновременно выкачивая архивы каждой версии, на генерацию которых у меня ушёл терабайт на ССД. На генерацию по сути мусора. И сотня запросов к слабому сервачку под кроватью. Load average за 200.

Четвёртое - этот ИИ пихают даже там, где он ну откровенно не нужен !! В винде 11 этот чёртов копайлот уже в notepad.exe !!

Ну и последнее - на прогреве верунов делают деньги. А меня все это достало.

В общем, потому ИИ и фашизм.

@camaradabakunin I think that saying that the AI art is bad is strategically unwise, because AI art is getting technically better over time. We should put the focus on the valuations of art that wouldn’t consider AI art good under any circumstances, which is most of them
