A man walks towards the steelworks in Hartlepool in 1963 by Don McCullin. Industrial scenes like this had a grim majesty to them.
I love everything about this photo, it is a masterful capture of a bygone age.

Silver birches are often an establishing #tree in younger #woodland. They are hardy and grow relatively quickly, helping to purify soils to establish large populations of fungi, mosses, grasses and several wildflower species.

In newly planted native woodland, they are usually the first to grow tall enough to create a canopy.

There is something about the silver birch that always inspires me. And I love the way they sway in the wind.

Here are a few autumnal silver birch images

Over the next couple of weeks, I am going to be sharing a series of photos of close-ups of Autumn. They were all taken during a misty early morning wander near Lincoln. I will start with a view taken near the end of the walk to set the scene.

Cold, crisp, salty air blew in from the Atlantic Ocean. I carefully climbed out on the wet rocks with my camera and tripod. I had to work fast as the sun was setting and more visitors came to capture the view. I timed the shutter with the tide coming in to capture the water’s brisk motion on the rocks and cliffs. As the sun set further, the red lamp of the #lighthouse turned on allowing me to capture a magical moment in time.

A female otter and one of her cubs, leaving the loch as the sun sank down, its last rays lighting up their long whiskers.

It's not often such light is available on Mull, and even rarer when there is something to photograph within it.

The weather is absolutely terrible at the minute so another one from the archive while I wait for the storms to pass!

Taken back in spring and just magical to see. Mum dad and babies in amongst the foliage, the fabulous mute swan 🦢

An early sunrise looking across Llyn Dinas in Eryri. The sun was already warm, no wind and only geese far off for company.
