Trying to read more for pleasure since the turn of the year... Admittedly, the list is mostly manga and comics but it's still reading...

Got the 12th book done today, so I'm comfortably on course for my most-read year ever.
I'll release the 6mth list at the end of June for those interested

They'll make AI workers create products that AI consumes. They have no jobs that pay money, and we have no money to spend on their AI products and services.

Soooo.... they can have fun with that.

Meanwhile, the rest of us are forced to build out own economy and means of exchange.

I think I'll use tech and automation to do the hard and boring stuff. Make it to where I have more free time to spend on art.

Much better than automating art and leaving drudgery to a couple random folks to do manually.

From the NYT obituary of Bernard Kerik:

"In 2004, he was named by the president to head the Department of Homeland Security. But he withdrew one week later because, he said, he had employed an undocumented immigrant as a babysitter and neglected to pay payroll taxes."

It is impossible for me to convince my kids who came of age during the Trump presidency that this was a normal thing that happened in politics

Even minor scandals were once considered career-limiting. Imagine...

So, I was watching this video by a historian I like on YouTube, and the video was about how high the infant mortality rate was in Medieval times, and I commented that a lot of women died young in childbirth as well. Seems pretty innocuous, and demonstrably true, right?

Apparently, I angered the men of the internet who raged that MEN ALSO DIED!

I had no idea so many men died in childbirth!

Including fake studies and using AI to generate a report should instantly disqualify anyone to lead a scientific agency.

Did you have a teacher who either supported or hindered your creative activity?

At age 9, my teacher inspired music. I learned the sax for the next two years: practiced a lot, played in band and marching band. I loved music.

At age 11, middle school brought 3 years of suffering under a pathetic waste of oxygen who screamed at kids all day, every day.

Mrs. Benton, you're the best.

Mr. Lane, I wish you a thousand paper cuts scrubbed with hand sanitizer. All day, every day.

#WritersCoffeeClub 12/31: What were the big writing moments for you in 2024?

Publishing my third novel in October: Lich Ears.

Finishing six different rounds of edits across 4 WIPs. Getting words just right.

Completing 2 cover artworks and sending them for review.

Seeing my first international order come by.

Delight in the first readers picking up my books through libraries.

And finally, participating in this hashtag and #WordWeavers for the first time alongside many wonderful writers.

Do your characters celebrate a year ending and a new one beginning?

In Lich Ears, the SC practices more an ending of a season and the start of a new one celebration due to the different Sidhe courts coming through the kingdom over the course of a year.

I'll be pondering this question for upcoming WIPs as part of world-building.

I'm happy to see Lich Ears reached 2 new readers through Hoopla. This last bit of good news to round out a curious 2024 year is very welcome.

May 2025 be a wonderful year for all the other authors out there. See you all on the other side of midnight in just a wee bit of time.
